Description: Unlike their dragons, it takes some effort for Maiz and N'vanik to manage a conversation.
Location: Dragonsfall Weyr
Date: month 3, day 2 of Turn 4
Maiz tooked at Indyath, studying her critically. The green looked very good to her eye, scrubbed clean and every inch of her gleaming with oil. **Okay, you are done! Now I am going to stretch out here on the beach and rest for a while.**
She did just that, claiming a spot on the sand that was sunny and not shaded by her dragon's bulk.
}:Indyath is beautiful today.:{ Loseth said as the last bit of his tail was being scrubbed.
**You gonna go over and say hi?**
The bronze shifted to get a better view. }:Yes. She's nice to talk to.:{
**Better rinse off first,** N'vanik said as he stepped back.
Loseth moved deeper into the water and ducked under. Coming back up, he headed toward Indyath and rumbled a greeting. }:You're lovely,:{ he told the green.
}:Thank you,:{ the green replied happily. }:I like being freshly oiled when it is sunny out. It makes it feel even warmer.:{
Maiz opened one eye a slit, then opened both and sat up. Loseth had settled close to Indyath, and his shadow obscured the sun she had been basking in. She glanced over at N'vanik. "Figures it would be your dragon who got in the way of my sun."
The bronzerider smiled and headed toward the shore. "He can't help being so big."
"No, I suppose he can't," the greenrider said with a sigh, as she got to her feet. There was no sense in lying in the shade after all.
N'vanik found a sunny spot nearby and sat down. "Fall off your green lately?"
Maiz rolled her eyes. "No, I haven't. And I take it you haven't fallen off Loseth... he's so tall you'd probably be hurt if you had."
"Nope. Haven't fallen." He leaned back on his hands.
She sighed and sat down in the sand. "Its nice and sunny today," she commented.
"Yep. Better soak it up while we can."
They lapsed into silence. Maiz was uncertain if she should say anything more... most of their previous conversations had hardly been civil.
}:I'm having a nice conversation with Indyath. Why don't you say something to her rider? Something nice,:{ the bronze added.
"Something nice," N'vanik said out loud, just to tease his dragon.
"What was that?" Maiz asked, looking at the bronzerider questioningly.
"Loseth wanted me to say something nice, so I did." He smiled.
The dragon huffed. }:That isn't what I meant.:{
"Oh," was all Maiz said. Her feelings were slightly hurt that he couldn't come up with anything remotely nice to say to her, even at his dragon's request.
N'vanik rolled his eyes. "I was just teasin him." Then he searched for something to say. "You have . . . nice hips."
She sighed, "Thanks, I guess."
He shrugged a shoulder. "At least it was an honest compliment."
"If you don't want to talk to me, I won't be offended," Maiz stated. "I know you're only talking to me because Loseth said you should..."
That made him feel vaguely guilty. "I'm not very good at conversation."
"It shows."
N'vanik sighed. "Well, you're not helping."
"I'm not very good at conversation either," she confessed.
He tilted his head. "And you keep refusing my best form of communication."
"What? Your unwelcome attempts at getting me into your bed?"
"We could use your bed," he teased.
"Isn't that what men say so it'll be easier for them to sneak out as soon as you fall asleep?" she joked back.
N'vanik grinned. "Yep."
Maiz laughed. "I think I'll decline then."
He stood and shrugged. "Your loss," he said with a small smile.
"I don't think I'd call it a loss."
The smile widened. "That's because you don't know what winning is like."
Maiz rolled her eyes. "That self-assured, are you?"
"Absolutely," the bronzerider answered.
"Well, then, you don't need me... I mean, certainly your self-esteem won't suffer from being rejected, just this once."
N'vanik lifted an eyebrow. "I think this is actually the third time."
She laughed. "Just never learn, do you?"
"I'm persistent," he said. "And you managed to get a conversation out of me after all."
"I guess I did."
