Description: Bhervehan tries to arrange for guards for The Tavern
Location: Vintner Hall
Date: month 2, day 10 of Turn 4
Bhervehan used his walking stick to kock on the frame of the door to the guard's barracks. "Hello?"
Corran had just come off his shift and was gathering his clothes to bathe when he heard the knock. That was fairly unusual. Few people who weren't guards came to the barracks. He headed over to the door and answered it. The man was clearly about a foot taller than Corran and quite bulky. It would have intimidated the guard if he hadn't known how to take care of himself. "May I help you, sir?" he asked politely.
"May I come in and sit down? My knee is not quite as young as it once was."
"Of course. Would you like to use my cot?" Corran held the door open and indicated which cot was his to the man.
"That would do fine, thank you." Hobbling to the cot, maybe lookign a bit more lame than absolutely neccessary, Bherevan eased himself down.
"If I am not mistaken, you are Corran?"
"I am." Corran replied. Few people ever mistook him for anyone else. It was the peril of being so short. "And you would be...?"
"Tavern Master Bherevan."
"It's a pleasure to meet you, Tavern Master. What can I do for you?"
"You know about the Tavern being opened soon?" he asked.
"I do indeed. Do you need my help with some aspect of that?" he queried.
"Yes I do," he answered. "On the night of the twenty-first, prior to the grand opening, we are having a private party, and I'd like to keep it that way. Also, for at least the first couple of sevendays I would like the have a few extra hands around to keep the peace if need be."
"I'd have to ask to be assigned but I'm sure it won't be a problem."
Corran replied. "The Tavern's going to support all kinds of folk, isn't it? Dragonriders as well as crafters and holders?"
"Everyone with the marks to pay," Bhervehan said. "Well, except for any guards working, they will have their meals on the house."
"So then there might be tensions." Corran commented. "Especially between female dragonriders and holders. Or maybe even the male greenriders. I presume that's why you'll want some extra guards?"
"Indeed, good sir. Of course, when the spirits flow, tempers follow, and fights are bad for business. I do not mind words flying in my bar, but I'll not abide fists flying."
Corran nodded. "Understood." he said simply, internally agreeing with the Tavern Master. He had to admit that he'd been a little bit skeptical about the entire idea when he first heard the rumors go around, afraid that tensions would spread from drunken ramblings in the Tavern to the Hold itself. Perhaps the visitors could go home to another place and forget it, but it was Amber Hills that would bear the brunt of anything. With the still-existing tensions between the Amber Hills and Amethyst Cliff people, Corran had worried. However, the Master seemed like he'd already anticipated the problems and come up with solutions. It was something Corran could respect. "Can you think of anything else you might need?"
"Well, if you could have your men keep an eye on The Tavern during the predawn candlemarks, when my staff is asleep," he answered. "Inside, and in the cooling room, there will be a lot of food and alcohol and very little security."
Corran nodded. "It's a tempting prospect for theives." he agreed. "I'll see what I can do."
"And I am sure your men might appreciate the occassional barrel?"
"I believe they would, though of course it would have to be done in a way where duties are not interfered with."
Bhervehan extended his hand, "of course."
Corran took his hand and shook it. "It was a pleasure meeting you, sir.
I'll contact you soon with more information on the arrangements." he said.
Bhervehan got to his feet. "I look forward to hearing from you."
