Description: Hartam and Barthella chat over a roasting herdbeast and come to an
understanding.
Location: Vintner Hall
Date: month 3, day 6 of Turn 4
Hartam walked into the kitchen of the Tavern and inhaled deeply, his eyes closing and a smile touching his face as he exhaled. He opened his eyes and addressed the cook. "I must tell you that whatever you're baking has an aroma to entice even the most particular of gourmets."
"Why thank you Hartam," Barthella said with a smile as she looked up from where she was kneading dough. "That would be tonight's special, Roast Herdbeast."
"That can be a tricky meal, or so I've heard. Perhaps I should try it before we open tonight -- just to be sure that it's up to your usual standards?"
"Nice Try." she replied with a grin but then dusted the flour off her hands and stepped over towards the spit. "I need to baste it anyway." she replied as she pulled a small chunk off and handed it to him.
The harper juggled the piece of meat from one hand to the other in an attempt to cool it, before deciding that it was time regardless of the temperature of the morsel and bit into it, savoring the taste. He chewed it thoroughly, nodding as he did so, and finally speaking. "Perfect. Simply perfect. Since coming to live here, I've eaten better meals than ever before in my life."
"There is a reason Bhervehan brought me all the way here." She replied as she brushed oil and herbs over the side of meat. She loved compliments but tried not to show her excitement lest they start to disappear. "But don't tell anyone I gave you a taste, or everyone will come in here looking for tidbits."
Hartam stopped licking the last bits of juice from his fingers to reply to her. "I'll not tell, but if anyone sees or finds out in any way, I'll say that it was in payment for a song request."
"Ha! Good idea." Barthella laughed.
He bowed in response, straightening with a sober expression. "Of course, if you ever do want to request a song, I would comply with no strings attached - other than those of my gitar, that is."
"Well," she replied with a sly grin, "If I'd known a little nibbling here and there would get me songs I would have given you a taste before now."
"Surely, my good woman, you've heard that harpers' palates sway their music? It's a well-known fact."
She shrugged then gave the side another swipe her knife rewarding the harper with another tidbit. "I didn't get along very well with the harper at my previous tavern. He didn't approve of some of my... choices."
Though one of his hands held the morsel of eat, the other rose to wave off her concern. "M'lady, I've lived enough Turns to question whether most of my own choices are good are bad. I'm in no position to approve or disapprove those made by others."
"Which is why I like you better already." she said with a wink.
"And I will do all that I can to keep it that way," he quipped.
