Description: K'deren stops by to check out The Tavern
Location: Vintner Hall
Date: month 2, day 26 of Turn 4
Bhervehan was behind the bar this particualr afternoon when the large man entered. As the door closed, shutting out the bright backlighting, the brewer noticed the shoulder knots of a dragonrider.
**So this is the tavern,** thought K'deren, he'd heard good reports of the place so far. And as it was on his way back from River Bluff, or not to far out of the way at least.
"Brownrider, welcome to The Tavern."
"Good to be here," replied K'deren. "Might I have an ale please?"
"Anything in particular?" Bhervehan asked.
"Just something good for quenching thirst."
"Surely," he asked, "you'd be wanting something more than 'just something'?"
"I am. but you are the Master Vintner, and I am but a dragonrider, and I have to trust your judgement in the matter of which is the best ale to sample for that purpose," replied K'deren as he seated himself at the bar.
"What would you reccommend?"
"Well, let's sse. Were you Weyr-bred, or searched?"
"Weyrbred," was the reply.
"Born at Dolphin Cove, then?"
"It was Thayan Peak Weyrhold then," a smile crossed the Wingsecond's face as he thought of his childhood before the pass. Life had truly been good then.
"mmmm, let me see, I think I have something you may like, give me a moment or two?"
"Of course."
Grabbing a large pitcher, Bhervehan headed for the refridgerated store room attached to The Tavern. A short while later, he returned. "I knew I had some," he told the rider.
"Some what?" asked the brownrider. "I hope it's worth the wait."
"I'd like to think it will be. Where ingredients come from can affect the taste of food and dinks." Pouring a large mug for the brownrider, he continued "this particular was brewed with the same grain your bread was made with as you grew up."
He took the mug, and lifted it to his lips. It smelt good, "Tastes good."
Pouring a mug from one of the barrels behind the bar, Bhervehan asked "do you think you have a reasonable taste sense?"
"I'd hope so."
"Good, rinse your mouth out with water and see if you can tell the difference," he said, passing the second mug to the man.
The brownrider did as he was bid. The second one had a subtly different taste, perhaps something added to the brew. "I like that one as well, there's something different about it."
"It's the grain, and the water. That is why even though the recipe is the same, the results can be different, depending on where you are brewing.
Not only that, but it affects how it matches with foods."
K'deren nodded. "So if I wanted to have something with roast herdbeast?"
"Perfect example! Beer brewed with grain from the same source, water from the same sourse will just taste better along with the roast."
"And something different with fish?"
"Yes," the brewer agreed. "A paler beer for fish."
"And with a dessert?"
"Wine. I have yet to figure out a good dessert beer yet."
"I'm sure you will, these here are good."
"I have a very good cook here."
"And maybe next time I'll get to sample their wares."
"Well, when you do you will have to try the meal with the beer of your choice and the beer of mine," Bhervehan said, thinking to himself that this way he could get that many more marks out of the rider.
"Perhaps I'll take you up on that."
