Lenala

Lenala

Lenala was still flushed with her newly discovered confidence when she sought out M'galec. She paused only long enough to send reassurance to Vilarth before confronting the bronzerider. "I'm sorry you don't understand my decision, M'galec, but this is what I need right now."

"Yes," M'galec nodded as he placed things carefully into the exact same box he had used to move in with. "Yes, everything must revolve around you and your needs. I have come to realize that. In fact, I have been trying to remember a moment during this entire relationship when you showed the slightest interest in what _I_ have needed. Is it not strange that I have not been able to remember even one?"

Expecting anger or confrontation, Lenala wasn't quite sure how to respond to this new accusation. "I--I don't know what you mean."

M'galec snorted. "Of course you do not, my dear. After all, it would require empathy for another person. I am not sure you developed that skill."

Lenala stiffened at the insult. "I tried to be what you wanted!"

"Only so far as it would suit you. Only so far as it would get me to spend my time, my energy, my marks, all in the pursuit of keeping you satisfied. You never asked what I need. But it does not matter anymore. You are not what I need."

Stunned, Lenala could do nothing but watch him until Vilarth spoke suddenly into her mind. }:Good! He will go and you will be happy again!:{
**But... what did _I_ do wrong?** She'd given _everything_ to M'galec...
her body, her mind, her _free-will_... Was she somehow to blame for this in spite of that? "I--I'm sorry, M'galec. I'm sorry it didn't work out." "It is regrettable that it had to end this way," M'galec nodded. "But we both should have seen it coming. You were not suited to me, no matter how I tried to convince myself otherwise. Master Abrei could see it. I should have listened to her opinion. But men in love make silly choices. In that, this whole situation is my fault."

Ice ran through Lenala's veins. "Master _Abrei_ could see it, could she?" It figured. The sharding woman couldn't keep her own life under control, but she certainly _loved_ to pass judgment on everyone else's! Vilarth's voice cut through her outrage. }:This is foolish. He is leaving. You _wanted_ him to leave. :{
**Yes, but--**

}:No. He is confusing you again!:{ "Yes. She could understand where I could not." He shook his head sadly. How much pain he could have avoided. "I just hope it is not too late."

Her eyebrows came together in confusion. "Too late for what?"

"Lenala, there are... more than one way to cheat on a partner. There is physically, as you are well aware, though, there is also a way to cheat on another emotionally. I have come to realize these days we have been apart that part of me has always loved Abrei." There, he had said it, in all its painful truth. He had not wanted to hurt her so, but somehow he doubted it was even possible at this point.

"You--"

}:NO! Let. Him. Leave.:{ Vilarth's strident command was unyielding.
}:You will come to Zylarth and Ar'lis. Now.:{ Lenala clenched her teeth and then forced a smile. "Well, then. I hope you two are deliriously happy together. Close the door on your way out."
Without waiting for a reply, Lenala spun on her heel and strode towards the door, hoping she'd make it before M'galec found any last hurtful words to throw at her.

M'galec turned back to his box, suddenly feeling lighter than he had in months. He had not even realized what a stress pampering Lenala had been. And now he could move on. Hopefully she could too. He wished her well, but this was for the best.
