Bhervehan came down the staff stairway into the kitchen. Now that there was a full kitchen staff, there was also a full breakfast.
Hopefully he could convince Barthella to make him one of her truly delicious omelettes.

"Good morning." Barthella greeted him absently as she checked on the readiness of the pastries she had pulled out of the oven. "There's some meat rolls and klah on the table, fruit and pastries will be ready in a minute."

"Then I will wait right here," he said. "You and yours ready for tonight?"

She slid them back in for another minute of browning and flashed him a smile as she stepped to the table that had an assortment of fruits cleaned and waiting to be cut. "Are we ever. But I must bring up those spit canines again, they just aren't keeping good time and are burning my smaller sides. You wouldn't be able to convince Fielton to switch with his; just for the next two nights?"

"I can try, I'll send one of the servers up to the Hall to ask. What's on the menu for tonight?"

"It depends on what the fishing brings in this afternoon." she explained while slicing into a redfruit. "I might throw some smaller catch on the grill real quick, but most likely I'll save whatever they have for tomorrow's big opening and do a simple herdbeast tonight. I don't want to overload my staff on the first big rush."

The Tavern Master's eye's widened, "Roast herdbeast? Always one of my favorites."

"I know," Barthella replied with a wink. "And I'll have most of the day to mind to it to perfection. Tomorrow I'll have my hands in other things."

"Then you will have to whip your staff into shape," Bhervehan said. "I have a beer in the store room that matches perfectly with it."

_That_ caught the head cook's attention and she stopped her slicing.
"Really? Care to hand it over for basting?"

"How much will you need? I only have a small barrel and I will want to serve some in mugs"

Barthella gave a small pout, "As much as it takes if you want it to taste the best. But it's up to you if you want to waste it on _drinking_."

"You never considered it wasting when it is in your mug woman," he answered with a laugh.

"Because _nothing_ is ever wasted on me. I'm worth it!" she reasoned as she placed the cut fruit in a bowl, sprinkled a bit of spice on it and set it over with the rest of the food.

Bhervehan laughed with the woman. "You never change, Bart. It is good to be working with you again."

"And it is good to be appreciated." Barthella said with a smile.

"You know I appreciate you, Bart," he said. "And I will appreciate you even more as soon as those pastries are out of the oven."

She hadn't forgotten about them, but made a show as to check to make sure they were indeed finished. Taking them out of the oven, she gave them a quick rap on the counter and flipped them over onto a cheese cloth where they popped out. Being careful to make quick work lest she burn her fingers, she tossed them into a basket and set them down in front of the Tavern Master. "Your wish is my command."

Bhervehan laughed, "that'll be the dear." Flipping the hot pastry from hand to hand, he took a big bite of it, hot juice dribbling down his chin. "mmmmm, as good as I remember."

"What, did you think I could have lost my touch?" she teased, already setting about to start another batch.

"Well," he shot back at her with a smile, "it is my tavern and I must be sure that the quality is always there."

Wiping his fingers and mouth with a cloth, he turned to her as she moved about the kitchen. "Your staff going to be ready?"

Barthella nodded, "My core staff yes. Those locals we hired last sevenday show promise, but we'll have to see how they turn out."

"I'll be trusting your sharp eyes in here," he replied. "One less thing for me to have to worry about."

"Sharp eyes _and_ a sharp knife!" Barthella teased as she wielded her blade before cutting into some shortening.
