She was just leaving the dining hall when she saw him, and just like that, she nearly lost her lunch. Just the sight of H'kar was enough to make her stomach threaten to revolt. When she had first moved to Dragonsfall Maiz had worried that her ex-weyrmate would follow her, but after many months she had quit worrying about it, though sometimes the thought did nag at her.

Thinking it far better to confront him now, before he saw her himself, Maiz crossed the weyrbowl towards him. "H'kar, you have no right to be here!"

The rider stopped and turned to face the fuming woman. "I'm sorry. Are you talking to me?"

She still wasn't quite close enough to see his face, so she continued, "Why did you come here? There is no way that I am going to listen to anything you have to say H'kar!" The rider stood in stunned silence for a moment as the greenrider charged towards him. Just what did he do to deserve such a tongue-lashing? And he certainly had no interest in talking with this woman, but it seemed she had a bone to pick with him. Or did she? "My name isn't H'kar."

Finally, she had come close enough to see his face, and he _wasn't_
H'kar. His face really didn't resemble H'kar's at all, but his build and stance made him look like the bronzerider from a distance. "I'm sorry," she mummbled lamely, her face flushed with embaracement. "I... I mistook you for someone else."

"Well, I should hope so. I don't think I've done anything to offend you, since I don't think we've ever met before." At least she didn't look familiar to him.

"I'm really sorry," she appologized again. "From a distance you bear a striking resemblence to someone I used to know." Obviously someone she was not happy to see. "Yes, well... Perhaps you should make sure next time..."

He didn't say it unkindly, but Maiz started to sniffle a little bit, holding back tears. Sharding hormones! "I will," she promised. Shards, he made the woman cry now. T'mahl reached out awkwardly to pat her shoulder. "Well... well, it's not that bad, really. Everyone makes mistakes sometimes. And I'm sure that whoever H'kar is he would deserve such a tongue lashing."

"I'm sorry," she said again, wondering vaguely how many times she had said that in the course of their conversation. "I know this is horrible awkward and I'm sorry you got caught in the middle of it." "Yes, well, I'm sorry too. I didn't mean to upset you." Wait, why is _he_ apologizing? How was this _his_ fault? Just how in Faranth's name did women do that? T'mahl didn't even know the woman, and yet somehow, he was the one feeling like he was a guilty cad in all this. He might as well have been H'kar, getting his just deserts. "Truly, I'm very sorry."

Maiz smiled. "Now I've got you apologizing for something you didn't do. What a lovely mess I've made!"

"No, no. It's not your fault." Shards, he was getting so confused!

"I should let you get back to whatever you were doing," she said quietly. "Yes. Well, thank you." Right now T'mahl wanted nothing more than to get back to his weyrlings where he knew where he stood!

Maiz finally walked away, wondering vaguely how she had managed to make him feel so guilty, when he hadn't actually done anything wrong.
