Description: Bhervehan walks around The Tavern in the morning
Location: Vintner Hall
Date: month 2, day 22 of Turn 4
Despite the long night, Bhervehan was up early. The pre-opening party had gone well. It was a good warm up for the staff. The crowd was good sized, but it was comprised almost entirely of the more 'refined' members of Pernese culture.
Today would be different. Today would be the common folk. The field workers, the drudges, caravaners and journeymen of many ilk would be here. And dragonriders.
Today it would start on the road to what a tavern should be. A meeting place, someplace where you could come, meet and make friends.
wind down before heading home. Tonight it would be ruckus, rowdy and rambunctious. He and Barthella had already wagered on when the first fight would break out, and the first chair broke.
That is what Bhervehan loved about running a tavern. In most public dealing, people have a Face that they show the public. Bartering with a smith, reporting a Master or teaching an apprentice. Those are the Faces of What you are, not Who you are. But in a tavern, when the beer is flowing, the music playing and the darts and cards are in action the real person comes out.
At various times during the previous night Bhervehan would climb to the landing in the middle of the stairs leading to the second floor of the tavern to watch the way people circulated around the room.
As expected, even in the summer with barely enough flame to justify the name, the table built around the fireplace seemed a popular gathering place. And, of course, the tables near the Harper's stage were always populated. Near the front door was not, it seemed, all that popular.
**Well, ** he had thought to himself, **that may be a good spot for a dart board, maybe a skittles table. **
As he walked around the room, he opened the window and threw back the shutters. Zeralden's candles did a good job of keeping the air smelling clean during the evening, but nothing beat fresh air for clearing a room of any odors.
Filling his mug with the klah he had started brewing when he first entered the bar area, he took a seat at the fireplace table. Taking a sip, he looked around the bar again. "Ahh, Junia, you would have loved this place."
From behind him he heard steps coming down the stairs. "Poppa?"
Turning, he saw his girls coming down the staircase. "What are you two doing up?"
"Journeyman Hartam and Jeromas are sharing the room you set aside for harpers," Junvia answered, "but the journeyman thought it more prudent if I spent the night with Winda. I forgot how badly she snored."
"Not as badly as you, little sister," Winda shot back at her.
**Yes, Junia, you would have been happy here.**
