K'mai

K'mai

"Hello D'val," K'mai greeted as he joined the greenrider at the pens.
"Ayleth seems to be in fine form today." He nodded toward the hunting green.

"Thank you," said D'val, "and Sebeth is looking quite---"

}:Fat,:{ interjected Ayleth, and pounced on a moderate sized buck.

"---healthy and fit today."

"Thank you," the bluerider said. **Aren't you going to eat?** he asked Sebeth. The blue had settled onto a nearby ridge.

}:Ladies first, like you say,:{ Sebeth answered, waiting for Ayleth to settle.

**So polite.** "And how are you?" K'mai asked.

"I can't complain," said D'val, as he seated himself on the top rail of the fence. "And you?"

"Life is good, as it should be." He looked up as Sebeth left his perch.

Clutching her catch possessively, Ayleth lifted her bloodied muzzle just long enough to hurl a warning in Sebeth's direction before returning to her meal.

The blue made his selection and turned to swoop low over the herd. He came up with a struggling animal in his claws and settled a good distance from Ayleth.

"Any plans for the evening?" K'mai asked D'val as he leaned against the rail.

D'val shook his head. "There's a patient in the infirmary I want to check up on, but other than that I'm done for the day. I was going to have an early dinner then turn in for the night. Why do you ask?"

"I happen to have a free evening and was wondering if you might like to help me fill it." The bluerider grinned.

'How original!' both D'val and Ayleth thought in unison. "Me? Why me---"

}:Maybe the ovines are all busy...:{ "---don't tell me you've slept with everyone else in the Weyr already?"

K'mai chuckled. "No. Don't tell me you think a handsome man like you would be my _last_ choice."

"No, not your last choice -- but I suspect I'm not your first choice either."

"That is true," K'mai admitted. "But there's something to be said for variety."

**You might be right about the ovines...** "Then maybe you should try chatting up the Weyrwoman," D'val suggested, grinning.

"I would, but I'm afraid I'm a bit too much in awe of her. But I have shared a bed with goldriders before," K'mai returned the grin.

"Really?" said D'val, eyeing the bluerider skeptically. "Anyone we know?"

K'mai shook his finger. "It's not polite to kiss and tell."

"If all you were doing is kissing, then there's nothing to tell, K'mai."

The bluerider rolled his eyes. "Oh, D'val! You know what I mean."

Hopping down off the fence post, D'val grinned at the bluerider as he circled around to the man's other side. "I know what you meant, I just don't believe that you did -- or at least not after they had Impressed."

"Oh, but I did." K'mai shifted to turn toward the greenrider. "And it was _after_ she Impressed."

"So... that rumor about you and... you-know-who is true?" said D'val.

"Hmmm, could be," K'mai winked. "Now if I could only get myself a bronze boy."

D'val laughed. "Not without a lot of wine and a liberal dose of fellis."

"A blueboy can dream, can't he?"

**Sounds more like a delusion to me.** "Of course you can dream. In fact..." D'val grabbed K'mai by the shoulders, drew him in, and kissed him full on the lips. "Keep dreaming," he said, releasing the bluerider, "because that's all you are going to get from me."

For a moment K'mai stood in shock, and then he started to laugh. He wouldn't have thought D'val had it in him!

**That's a different reaction...** "Did I say something funny?"

"Oh, D'val, D'val! I had you pegged for the restrained type, and here you go surprising me!" K'mai got his laughter under control.

"Not restrained, just picky," said D'val. "A man needs more than a pulse and a smooth come-on line to get into my weyr."

K'mai leaned against the fence again. "Maybe I'll figure out a way.
Trial and error can yield surprising results."

}:I am full,:{ Ayleth told D'val.

"Dream on, my dear K'mai, dream on!" D'val laughed. "Although, for now, you'll have to do it alone. Ayleth's done, and I have a date with a warm bathing pool and then a comfortable bed."

"Good night, then." K'mai gave him a playful salute before turning to watch Sebeth. The bluerider didn't mind the rejection. He'd find someone else, or someone else would find him.

**Amusing fellow... A very amusing fellow,** D'val thought, as he mounted his dragon.
