A shopping trip

Characters: Bhervehan, Zeralden
Description: Bhervehan comes to see Zeralden about getting some candles made.
Location: Amber Hills Hold
Date: month 2, day 15 of Turn 4

Bhervehan and Winda followed the directions the Hold guard, made their way to the cabin near the Smith's Hall. "The cot on the southwest corner the man said, right Winda?"

"That's right, da," she answered.

Lifting his walking stick, Bhervehan knocked on the door.

Zeralden was engrossed in carving a fancy sculpted candle for the Lord Holder when the knock on the door startled him and caused him to take an extra chunk out of the piece he was working on. **Shards!** He paused and looked at the piece. **Maybe I could fix it if I just took some off here...** The knock at the door went unanswered.

After waiting a bit, Bhervehan lifted his walking stick again.
Rapping the door again, he muttered under his breath how he hoped this was not indicative of the man's skills.

Startled again by the knock on the door, Zeralden thankfully did not damage the piece again. "Yes, yes, I'm coming," he grumpily called as he walked to the door. He opened it with a yank. "Yes?"

Startled again by the knock on the door, Zeralden thankfully did not damage the piece again. "Yes, yes, I'm coming," he grumpily called as he walked to the door. He opened it with a yank. "Yes?"

"Zeralden? The Candler?"

"Yes, that would be me. Who might you be?"

"I might be the Weyrleader from Dolphin Cove," he answered with a grin. "But more than likely, I am Bhervehan, soon to be Tavern Master at Vintnerhall."

"Ah, the much talked about tavern. Well, come in then. Is this the Tavern Mistress come as well?" Zeralden moved back to allow them entry.

"No, this is Winda, my daughter," he replied, smiling fondly. "She is my life and my memory. Without her I would be lost."

Winda stepped forward. She started to extend her hand to the candler, until she remembered where she and her father had come to. Simply nodding her head she said "Candler Zeralden."

Zeralden nodded at Winda. "Greetings." He turned to Bhervehan. "So, what can I do for you?"

"Well, I would like to commission some candles."

"What do you have in mind?"

"Scented candles," Bhervehan said. "For the tavern."

"Intimate lighting, large candles, tapers, jar candles, there really are many options. I'll need some additional information to determine what you need. Describe where you will be using the candles."

"Until I get an idea of the clientel, I will be using a mixture of glows and electric lighting. The candles I am looking for will be to counteract the odors inherent in such an establishment."

"Ah, so lighting is not really important then. What kind of scents do you want? I'm thinking something natural and...earthy perhaps."

"Certainly, I do not want the scent to be especially noticeable."

Zeralden walked over to a cabinet, opened it, and looked over the contents. He selected several vials, and brought them over to a central table. "Here we have basil, sage, and lavender. All good scents."

"I am not looking for a scent, per se," the Tavern Master said. "I am looking for something that will be more noticeable by its absence."

"Are you going to have food at your tavern?"

"Yes."

"Then I would suggest a mixture of basil and sage. It will smell plesant, not overpowering."

"Good, when can I see a sample?"

"As soon as you tell me what style of candle you are considering, I can give you an estimate. Tapers, jars, carved? I suggest jar candles for your purposes."

"That was my thought as well," he agreed.

"Would you prefer several smaller jars to be placed in many locations, or larger jars to be placed in select locations?"

"Oh, certainly many, spread about the tavern."

Zeralden made a few notations on a scrap of hide. "I have a project for the Lord Holder before this, but I should be able to have an adequate representation available in a sevenday, if that is acceptable?"

"More then, thank you."

"Is there anything else, Tavern Master?"

"Not at this time, that I can think of."
