Defensive. Why shouldn't she do something she enjoyed?

"Your husband is a lucky man, then," he said eyeing her carefully for her reaction. It was his attempt at tactfully ascertaining if she were married or available.

"No husband yet," Jielta said simply. "Oh really? I am surprised," the young man replied almost nonchalantly, but a slight smiled tugged at his lips. "I'm Jakham, by the way. I'm visiting the Hall with my father. He's doing business with the Hallmaster today."

"I'm Jielta," she introduced herself. "And if your father is doing business with the Hallmaster he must be with my father then."

Jakham had hoped to impress the pretty lady with his connections, but he found himself in turn impressed. "The Hallmaster is your father?"

Jielta smiled. "If you doubt it, you need only look at my eyes. My father passed on his unusual blue eyes to both his daughters."

"I'm sorry, miss, but I have serious doubts," Jakham replied with a dubious shake of his head, though his smile was full of amusement. "I'm sure if Master Fielton had such a lovely and talented daughter, I would have heard of it."

"Well, I hardly think its a secret," the young woman replied just as easily.

"It's a pleasant surprise to just me, then," he chuckled. "I take it you have no wife then," It was half question, half statement. "Or else surely you wouldn't be pleasantly surprised by any other woman. Or at least I would home not."

"No wife," he quickly reassured her. "And no betrothed or beloved either for that matter. I'm sure you have more than your fair share of suitors though, right?"

"Its not appropriate for me to answer that," Jielta said, suddenly realizing exactly how inappropriate their conversation was. Flirt, fine. Talk about marriage bluntly with an eligible man you just met, that was certainly not ladylike!

Jakham threw his head back and laughed. "Now I can see your father in you." He laid a hand on her shoulder gently. "I didn't mean to offend you. I was just trying to make you smile."

She was embarrassed that she hadn't gotten the joke.
"This is the dining hall," she said, gesturing to the doors in front of them.

"It's beautiful. I can smell the fresh paint." It was certainly serviceable enough at least. "May I ask you a question?"

"You may certainly ask, but I make no promises to answer it."

"Are you _expected_ in the kitchens?
Or are you welcome to show up at will? I only ask because if you didn't _have_ to be in the kitchens at a certain time, I was wondering if you might be willing to show me around a little. I rarely get out of my own Hold, and I'd like to see something of the Vintner Hall besides just the kitchens and the dinning hall."

"I guess I don't really _have_ to be there," Jielta said tentatively. "I like to cook, so I'm often there, but its not really required or anything."

"Fantastic," he grinned as he held he arm out for her, a silent invitation to take it. "Then would you do me the honor?"

She smiled, and took his arm. "So, where would you like to start?"
