N'vanik

N'vanik

"So, have you gotten settled in yet?" N'vanik asked as he stripped off his riding gloves.

"For the most part," Maiz replied, as she climbed up onto Indyath to unfasten her riding harness. "I've been here a while now." "Sometimes it takes a while to get settled in," he returned with a shrug. "So have you found some ways to have fun?"

"I was seeing a bronzerider for a while," she said casually.

"Was -- that would be past tense?"

"Yes, past tense," Maiz rolled her eyes. "I broke up with him."

"So what'd he do? See too many girls on the side?" he asked.

"Of course not!" That offended her. "I just didn't want to be with him anymore." N'vanik smirked. "That's an excellent reason." Not that he really cared at all, but he felt like being annoying.

Maiz just shook her head, and continued to work on removing Indyath's harness. "My offer still stands. If you want some nice, uncomplicated fun just look me up," he said.

"How do you do that? Be such a jerk, then make an offer like that?"

A grin spread across his face. "I guess I'm just special."

"Try being nice," Maiz suggested. "It will get you a lot more than acting like a wherry."

"I get plenty just being me," N'vanik said, still grinning.

}:You _should_ be nicer,:{ Loseth commented.

Again, Maiz just shook her head, unable to dignify his words with an answer. Indyath, who had apparently developed an itch, shook her head violently, causing Maiz to lose her footing while she worked on her riding straps and tumble to the ground. So much for dignity. N'vnaik bit his lip, trying hard not to laugh. }:Help her up!:{ Loseth insisted. N'vanik stepped over to her and offered his hand.

Maiz had shifted to a sitting position, and eyed his hand distastefully. Rather than take his help, she akwardly forced herself to her feet, holding one arm tucked against her side.

"Oh, so that's what I get when I try to be nice," he snorted. "So why should I bother?"

"If you had been nice to me in the first place I would have accepted your help," Maiz snapped, as she turned back to Indyath. }:I'm sorry, I didn't mean to knock you. My head itched.:{ the green apologized.

N'vanik crossed his arms. "So if I don't start out nice, I shouldn't try to be nice later. Thanks for the valuable lesson." And, he thought, for reminding him why he disliked people in general.

"Don't try to be nice when I just embarassed myself by falling off my dragon," she corrected, still clutching her left arm close to her side. "Should I laugh at you instead? Or walk away and leave you on the ground?"

"Why are we fighting about this?" All she wanted to do now was get Indyath fully un-harnessed and go back to her weyr. "Because I made a mistake. I thought you might be worth the time," he said. "You might want to have that looked at." N'vanik nodded toward her arm before turning and walking away.

Sensing that if she just let him walk away she may have just made herself an enemy, Maiz called out, "Wait! Can you help me for a second?" She was blushing furiously at having to admit she needed help, but she did so anyway. "I landed on my wrist when I fell, and it hurts. I still need to get Indyath's harness off and I can't do it one handed..."

N'vanik considered leaving her there. If being nice wasn't good enough for her, let her figure out how to help herself. }:Indyath would really like to have her straps off, :{ Loseth said. The bronzerider sighed. "Oh, so _now_ it's okay for me to be nice," he said as he walked toward Maiz.

"I'm sorry for saying that," she apologized, her face still bright red.

"Well . . . good." He reached up and started removing Indyath's straps.

Maiz stood off to the side a bit while he worked. It didn't take him long. "Thank you for helping me," she said quietly, meeting his eyes briefly then quickly glancing away.

The corner of his mouth turned up. "I know a good way you could thank me."

**Why do I think I don't want to know?** she asked Indyath. "What?" she asked N'vanik.

He tilted his head. "Take me up to your weyr."

She sighed, "Is everything about sex to you?"

"Not everything. I eat, too." Now he was smiling.

"Well, you're welcome to come to my weyr for some klah and a snack," Maiz said. "But if you are expecting anything more than that..."

"Maybe some other time," he said. "I've got things to do." If he wasn't going to get sex out of the deal, then he would rather give Loseth a bath and then go back to his weyr and spend time with Talryne.

"Okay, well... thanks again for helping me..."

"Yeah." N'vanik turned again and walked away.
