Disruptive

Writers: Emma, Paula
Date Posted: 25th October 2006

Characters: Thanja, Eilomar
Description: Thanja tries to have a civil discussion with Eilomar and gets to hear his complains. Again. I don't know why she bothers.
Location: Harper Hall
Date: month 13, day 20 of Turn 3

"Master Eilomar," said Thanja by way of greeting as she walked past the man's table. It would be impolite to ignore him, it really would.

"Master Thanja," Eilomar replied the greeting with equally curt manner.

She ignored the fact that he hadn't used her rank as well, it wasn't worth it. "Might I ask how the preparations for Turn's End are going?"

"Pretty well concerning the circumstances," Eilomar grunted. It was half complain, half compliment.

"The dragonriders are of a standard?"

"Somewhat. They amateurs. Or half trained. I wish I would for once get a truly talented and dedicated person to train!" Eilomar said. "Not just someone who does it for fun!" his indignation was obvious.

"Perhaps you should look at this as an opportunity to find that special person amongst the Weyrfolk," suggested Thanja. "Think what it could do for your reputation here."

"They are always so sharding busy. I have troubles making them stay in one place long enough to hold a proper practise session," Eilomar continued his complain, ignoring her advice.

"Try and work around threadfall and the day immediately before. They will be too busy with what they need to do to keep us safe then."

"They run off middle of everything because of some sharding green is rising or other such nonsense," The master singer didn't even listen what she was saying.

"Dragons rise," she said, even if it did make her feel slightly uneasy at the thought of her children having to deal with that kind of thing. "If they didn't there'd be no hatchings and hatchlings to protect us all."

"Whatever. It's still...disruptive," Eilomar's handgesture dismissed all dragonriders. His world circled around his ego.

Thanja could really see now why this man hadn't been asked to be the Hallsecond, he seemed rather... set in his ways. "The weyr is our new home, we should respect them."

"The respect goes both ways, they should show some respect to master crafter like me," Eilomar whined.

"And I'm sure they do respect you."

Eilomar just snorted sarcastically.

"Perhaps if someone else were to speak to them about this?" she suggested, aware of how he'd react. It was maybe cruel to taunt him like that, but she couldn't resist.

"They don't listen. They never listen," Eilomar sighed with over-dramatic gesture.

Thanja made a mental note to speak to Almonteo about this, Eilomar could seriouly damage relations with the Weyr if he carried on like that. "I'm sure they will one day."

"Yeah, yeah, whatever," he didn't even pretend interrest.

With that, Thanja sensed the conversation had come to a natural end.
"Perhaps we can speak about this again, another time?"

"Whenever," Eilomar replied indifferently.
