Making New Friends

Description: J'klin makes a new friend

Date: month 12, day 10 of Turn 3

"Is this seat taken?" J'klin asked as he stood next to the table with his meal tray.

"Not at all. I'm J'ren." the wingsecond didn't recognize the other man.

"J'klin, I transferred into Rapids wing. And thanks, I don't know many people here yet, and I don't like eating alone." he said lightly as he sat down. In truth, he'd gotten used to it. His last few sevendays at Dragonsfall had been pretty lonely and he had mostly eaten by himself. He had told himself though that this would be a new start and that meant making friends.

"Transfer huh? Can't be easy. I was raised here and have no plans to go anywhere else."

"So you were a weyrbrat?" J'klin asked before taking a bite of the fresh greens on his plate.

"Yeah, don't go looking for stories to use for bribery though, there aren't many. What about you? Your from Dragonsfall, anywhere before that?"

J'klin grinned, there were _always_ stories, but that could be saved for later. "I'm a Seacrafter by trade. I sailed around quite a bit in the South before I impressed so you could say I'm from everywhere."

"Must have been interesting, what do like better, flying or sailing?"

He didn't even have to think on it. "Flying, definitely. Although sailing does always have a special place in my heart. I always plan on taking a day sail on some restday just to feel the waves crash against the bow, but I never seem to have the time. How about you? You apprentice anywhere before Thread came back?"

"No, I impressed young, before thread came back I helped my older foster mother with her charges."

"That must have been a great responsibility for a young man with a dragon to care for as well."

"J'ren shrugged, "Not really Kenaranth's always liked children. He'd help me entertain them and he got the best bathes in the Weyr."

That elicited a chuckle from J'klin. "Weyrbrats do give the best scrubbings. I'd swear they think it improves their chances of impressing."

"I know that's what they think. I thought the same thing when I was younger."

The grin on J'klin's face grew bigger, "But I bet now you don't discourage the notion do you?"

"And cheat myself out of help for that lump of bronze hide? Never!
It'd take me days to wash him myself." J'ren laughed, "Of course he'd complain that I was doing it wrong the whole time."

J'klin sighed as he laughed with J'ren. This was a good guy, he decided, just the type of lighthearted company he needed to be keeping.
His mindhealer would be proud of him for putting forth the effort of making new friends... and _he_ was kind of proud of himself too.
