Ordering Books

Writers: Cali, Emma
Date Posted: 23rd July 2006

Characters: Mosler, Thanja
Description: Mosler orders some new books from Thanja for the Hall.
Location: Dolphin Hall
Date: month 12, day 21 of Turn 3

Looking over his days itinerary, Mosler smiled. After his next meeting with the Harper Hallsecond, he had till evening meal free and he was very much looking forward to doing some swimming with his dolphin partner Calla. The Turns End finals had wiped him out, and he planned on enjoying the two sevendays break before classes started up again.

"Hallmaster Mosler?" The Hallsecond knocked lightly in the door, waiting politely for acknowledgment.

"Come in, Come in." he called as he rounded his desk and walked towards the door. "Thanja isn't it?"

"That's correct," Thanja smiled at the Hallmaster. "I'm here about the order for textbooks?" It might be more normal for this to be discussed with someone other than herself, but Thanja felt that she ought to meet the Hallmaster here for herself.

Mosler motioned to one of the soft chairs by his desk, "Of course, let me get you a drink first, it's a bit of a walk from the Harper Hall here."

"It was, and it's a lot hotter here than where I grew up."

"I know what you mean," he said, pouring her some of the fruit juice he had in a pitcher. "I'm from the North myself, and even after all these turns in the South I'm _still_ not used to it some days."

"That and the calendar being upside down as well. My mind still thinks we should be preparing for the worst of winter."

"Too right" he gave alittle toast to that with his own cup as he sat down in another of the soft chairs. He rarely sat at his desk when conversing with another Master, it felt too imposing to him, and slightly disrespectful. "But of course here, it is _never_ winter. The worst it gets is a nice Northern day." he said after taking a drink.

She took a sip from her glass. "I just came over to confirm the order, and check what illustrations you wanted in it. I could have sent someone, but I'd heard enough about you that I wanted to meet you myself."

"Well I am honored then." he said with a smile. Finishing his drink he stood, and picked up the stack of paper on his shelf. "These are the additions and updates that I said would be forthcoming, including the current and shoreline maps."

Reaching out, Thanja took them and began to cast a professional eye over them. "These would be no problem, but I notice you've got several colours in this one."

Mosler frowned as he saw the map in question, "Yes, that one gave us some problems, but that is the fewest colors we could get to show the variances of water depth for those islands."

"I do understand, and it is possible. It means it will take a little longer to do and may cost more than you planned."

While he didn't _like_ that answer, it _was_ the one he was expecting.
"Okay, how much more and how much longer?" If it was too much, they might just have to make do with sharing a few classroom maps.

Thanja looked at a hide she had just pulled out of her belt pouch. "This contains our standard price list. As you can see, the use of all these colours just pushes it into the next price band. But perhaps if we were to work on using some shading instead perhaps. Would that work?"

"Hmmm, that might be feasible. I'd want to look at it before I approved it though. Could one of your people work up what you have in mind?" There would be no point in having a map in their books that they couldn't use effectively. "I can have Journeywoman Silar take a look at it tomorrow."

He smiled, reassured. "Good, and do you have an estimated delivery date?" "Early next month, assuming there are no changes."

"Wonderful, and thank you for coming up to handle all this." he said gratefully as he stood up, "Now let me escort you out as far as the beach, I have a swim date with a very important lady." he added with a grin.

"Your partner?" asked Thanja.

Mosler nodded, "Calla. You should come down some time and I'll take you out for a swim with her, she loves to meet new people." "I might have to take you up on that, I've never met a Dolphin before."

He smiled and gave a small bow, "Until next time then."

"Until next time," she echoed.
