Location: River Bluff Weyr
Date: month 12, day 26 of Turn 3
"Well, this is a little embarrasing." J'klin said with a sigh, "One of my first Threadfalls here and I get scored."
Riveenata headed over to him. "Well, we probably use different formations then where you came from. Where _did_ you come from?" she asked as she washed her hands in redwort. "Since you're here alive and not screaming in pain on the ground outside, I'm assuming you killed the Thread by /betweening/, right?" she asked lightly. In a good mood, she tended to joke more. "So where's the score?"
"I'm from Dragonsfall," he said as he uncovered his arm, "It's right here. And yeah, I thought it missed us at first, when we came out of between I discovered otherwise." he said with a sardonic smile before continuing, "We landed briefly to get some numbweed on it, and then continued the Fall. I don't think it got the muscle, but I wanted to get it checked out to be sure."
"Dragonsfall? I hear it's cold there, I'd rather the warmth here. Oh, I've Riveenata, journeywoman healer." She couldn't help but grin, proud of her promotion. She reached for his arm and inspected it. "Let me know if anything hurts too much while I touch it, okay?" she asked as she probed it gently with her fingers.
He watched her, detached as she prodded the score, the numbweed must have done its job as he felt nothing. "J'klin, rider of brown Nimyth.
It does get cold, but the weather's not that bad there."
"Nice to meet you." she remarked. "Okay, it's not deep, and I don't feel any muscle damage. Just to be sure, can you move the arm around, make sure motion isn't impeded?" she asked. "If it's not, I can give you something you'll need to take for the next few days, a tea that's a painkiller and infection-preventer." she explained.
Her blue eyes caught his attention as he moved his arm around as told, "I finished Fall with it and didn't notice anything limiting."
She smiled. "Seems like you've gotten off lightly, then. I'm going to give you the herbs for a mosstea and meadowsweet tea. Take it for a sevenday. If you see any signs of infection, swelling or redness or pain, come back." All of that was said in her best professional voice.
Her smile was warm and inviting, and he could tell she was in a good mood. Something inside him wanted to get to know her better, but he remembered Arilanna and had to remind himself that Healer girls were just trouble.
She left to get the tea and then came back. "Am I telling you anything you don't know, though, already?" she asked, eying him. Yeah, that looked like a Threadscore. "Looks like you've been gotten before."
"A long time ago." he said, "Nimyth and I have learned to dodge better... well, at least most of the time."
"It's hard up there." she said softly. "But being a dragonrider's important. I think you're lucky to be one." she told him.
She looked kind of young, but being a journeywoman she couldn't be _that_ young so he wondered if she was still of impression age. "Do you stand at the hatchings?"
"I used to. I took off the last clutch and used the time I used to spend in classes working in the Infirmary. Didn't Impress, did get these knots." She pointed at her journeywoman's knots. "I'll stand at this one- I have two Turns left. We'll see how it goes."
He might have sworn off Healers, but greenriders were still fair game.
"Well, good luck, I'll be rooting for you." he said with a smile as he took the tea from her.
She smiled. "Thank you very much, J'klin." she said. "Anything else I can do for you?" she asked. "It must be hard to adapt to a new place."
Temptation was a hard thing to beat, especially when pretty eyes accompanied it, but J'klin's will won out in the end. "Nope, not today," he said as he grabbed his jacket and headed for the door. "But I'll be seeing you."
"I'll be seeing you, too- it was a pleasure to meet you!" Riveenata called after the departing rider. He was certainly a pleasant man. She found herself hoping, a little, she'd soon run into him again.
