About ten turns old boy bursted into the infirmary. He had a wild look on his face. "Master Miranek! I need to find master Miranek!" He called.
"I'm Master Miranek," said the healer looking down on the lad who seemed to be almost out of breath. "Take a deep breath and tell me what's the matter." The lad had a look of the Hold's steward; possibly one of his children.
"Dad sent me to you. It's about Mom, she's not feeling well," the boy explained.
"Your father is Steward Corowal?" confirmed the Healer.
The boy slapped his head. "Yeah, he is, sorry. I'm Corofel. Can you come to se her, Mom, I mean?"
"Of course I can," Miranek almost smiled at how serious the boy sounded.
"Let me get my bag, then you can show me to them."
The boy led him to the stewards appartment and to the bedroom. Ofelia laid there, with her husband tenderly wiping her forehead with damp cloth.
"Master Miranak, so glad you could come. Thank's Corofel," Corowal's voice betrayed his relief seeing the master midwife.
The steward's wife didn't look well at all. Anyone would be able to see that, it wouldn't take a trained healer. "Anytime you need me," he said setting his bag down. "Corofel says you don't feel well?"
"I have the most horrible headache. Like someones is trying to squeeze my brains out," Ofelia answered with a weak voice.
"Any nausea? Or any other symptoms?" he asked as he got his stethoscope out.
"A bit nausea," she replied. "The light hurts my eyes too."
"Well I'll be able to give you a tea for that," he said. "Let me examine you, then if your son will come back with me to the infirmary, I'll have it made up for you."
Moving over to the bed, he began a rapid, yet thorough examination of his patient.
Corowal hovered nervously nearby. Ofelia had had difficult pregnancies before but they never been this bad. Before it had been her back aching and the babies threathening to come out too early. This time the baby seemed willing to stay inside long enough.
Completing his exam, the healer stood up. "I'll have that tea and instructions brought to you as soon as possible." He hoped that sounded soothing, "I'm going to need you to take it very easy from now, in fact you're going to have a few sevendays of bed rest until that babe arrives."
"What's wrong with her?" Corowal asked quietly.
"I think it might be a condition called toxaemia, which can be very serious. But we've caught it early, which means we can treat it. The bed rest will help, and I mean complete bed rest, she only gets up to use the necessaries. I'll brew a tea to help the headaches, which she can take as needed." Miranek gave Ofelia what he hoped was a reassuring glance, "Before you know it you'll be holding your baby."
"Not too soo, I hope. I don't wish for another Ofewal," Corowal grunted.
"We'll just have to take this day by day," said the healer. "But there may come a point..." His voice trailed off, knowing that the other man knew full well what he meant. "If that time comes, we'll know."
Corowal nodded grimly and rubbed his face. Shards, one more thing to worry about.
"The best thing you can all do for each other is to keep calm and try to relax as much as possible. And if you feel anything at all is wrong, send to the infirmary. Even if I am not on duty, I can be reached in an emergency."
Corowal nodded. It was comforting to know that there were expert around. "Will your son be able to come to get that tea now?"
"Sure he can," Corowal nodded and beaconed his son closer. "Corofel, go with Master Miranek. He will give you some medications to bring back to Mom," he instructed the lad and gave his shoulder a proud sqeeze.
"It will be okay," he said to the lad. "Your Mom will drink the tea, and she'll feel better."
Corofel nodded, reassured. He was worried, seeing his mother sick.
"Are you ready to go back with me?"
"Yes, sir," the lad answered.
"Then I'll give you the tea and some instructions, and you can be back here soon."
