"And so to answer your question, Fasal," U'kaiah said looking at the candidate, "No, your lifemate will not tell all the other dragons all your deepest, darkest secrets. They know when something is important for you to keep quiet." He looked around at the room to see if any more hands were raised. "Nothing else? All right, go get your lunch."

As the candidates filed out of their class, the bronzerider put a hand on the shoulder of a dark young man. "Naemor, can you wait a few moments?"

"Certainly, sir," Naemor said and looked him with bright, curious eyes.
He didn't think he had done anything wrong lately, so it probably wasn't reprimands. What else it could be, he had no idea. After the last of them filed out, Naemor and U'kaiah found themselves alone. "I'm sorry to keep you from your lunch, lad, but how are you doing now? I know things... haven't been easy."

"Pretty well, I guess. I don't sleep very well at the moment," Naemor answered. So, it was sympathy. Sometimes concerned, well meaning people were so irritating with their how are you doing-questions. "Yes, I see the circles around you eyes," the bronzerider nodded. "You know, you could take a little time if you need it. I know you came here pretty much directly from your father's funeral."

Naemor shook his head. "I don't need time. Time just gives you change to brood and I've seen where that leads," Naemor replied, remembering his sister. U'kaiah knew that feeling all to well. "Well, do you feel about staying in the candidate barracks? Do you think you could sleep better if you moved in with your mother? I hear she's at the Weyr now."

Naemor rolled his eyes. "Last thing I need is Mam fussing over me. If I want to be alone, I take a runner and go for a long ride." "You like runners do you?"

"Yes, I'm a jockey, _were_ a jockey," Naemor said with a little wistful sigh. "I guess that means you can pick out a winner then, eh?" the bronzerider asked with a smile.

"I hope so," Naemor smiled back.

"It's a rare gift," U'kaiah nodded appreciatively. "You were a crafter? Or just a jockey?"

"Crafter. I came here from Beastcraft hall," Naemor told.

"Do you still craft?"

"Yes, I'm working under journeywoman Firsa," Naemor replied.

"Sometimes diverting your energy to something like crafting can be good you, mentally as well as for your future," the bronzerider said with a knowing smile. "And a little extra physical work might help you sleep better at night as well."

Naemor just nodded. "All right, why don't you go join your classmates for lunch. Just... try to get some more sleep, all right?"

"Yes, sir," Naemor replied promptly. "Off you go then," the bronzerider dismissed him with a nod.
