Z'al smiled as he lead his sister to the Harper Hall's part of the Weyr. His sister had come to him asking to go to the Harper Hall to apprentice. HE had been happy to take her. She nearly bounced along beside him. She usually never bounced. That was Leeda. Ada turned to her brother several times smiling. She loved his happy go lucky smile. He was always good to her. He took care of her and her little sister so well. When they made it to the Master Harper's office he motioned to her to knock. She did so.
"Come," Almonteo called as he continued to scan the roster of riders who wanted to be included in the Harper classes they were setting up for them.
Ada cautiously opened the dorr and walked in. Her brother followed behind with a smile on his face. Ada walked in and stood before the Master Harper in awe. She was speachless. Z'al was not. He smiled as he made ready to explian, "Excuse me sir but my sister wished to come and beg for an apprenticeship. She has been working with the HArpers here at teh Weyr and was hoping that having the hall here she may ne able to apprentice." He gently pushed her forward. "Well, she would hardly have to _beg_," Almonteo reassured her with a smile. "Please, have a seat, both of you."
Z'al sat as did his sister. "Ada has been working with the harpers at the weyr. She is really good. She even has a tune she has been working on to sing for you." He smiled easily. "Oh, delightful," the Hallmaster smiled. "So you already are an apprentice?"
"Not official. Shall we?" Z'al asked. As he produced his own pipes. "Go ahead," Almonteo nodded.
He played the soft little song he had worked on just for his little sister. It complimented her voice well. Her young voice wove the melody with the notes. The song was soft and liek a lulaby. It told of Dragons and of the love they held. It painted the picture of the softer gentlier side of the magnificent beasts. He braught it to a close with the final leap /between/, as rider and dragon themselves to oblivion.
Both paused a moment as the last note died and then waited for the MasterHarper's reaction.
Almonteo grinned, "That was lovely, both of you. Brownrider, I must say, your song is quite promising. Are you sure you're not a harper? And Ada, you sang it so well. It certainly seems to be a song that compliments your voice nicely."
Z'al smiled, "I've always enjoyed listening to the Harpers that came near our home. They always enjoyed teaching me what they coiuld while they were with us. I thank you for the compliment."
Ada smiled at the praise and spoke, "I enjoy singing and want to see were it leads me. I also am learning to play several instruments."
"Oh? Such as?" the Hallmaster asked curiously.
She blushed, "Well, I can paly the harp, guitar and the pipes. My brother taught me on the pipes."
"Yes, he is rather good. He would be a good teacher, I should think,"
Almonteo nodded. "Have you thought of also becoming an apprentice, Z'al? You seem to have a passion for music."
Z'al thought for a moment. "I had never thought of it. I truly enjoy playing. Would I be able to even though I am a rider?" he asked.
"Other riders have done it before," Almonteo shrugged. "You wouldn't have as much time to devote to it as a standard apprentice, since your duty to the Weyr and your dragon are paramount, but surely you could find some time."
"I'm sure I could find some time. My weyrmate might find an excuse to come sing along." He chuckled. "It would seem this visit was fruitful for two this time."
"Is she also an apprentice?" Almonteo asked cautiously. "Your weyrmate, I mean."
"Not yet. She has thought about it but I think she doesn't realy believe me when I say she has a beautiful voice. Ah well." He smiled thoughtfully. "Will Ada need to move into the apprentice barracks or however you do it? If so I will inform her foster mother of the change."
"Yes, she does," Almonteo nodded. "We have a section set aside especially for female apprentices and students. There are only a couple other girls at the moment, but there are applications for more, so she will be joined soon."
"Very well, I will inform her and Have my sister's things sent over.
Thank you sir." Z'al smiled as he stood to leave.
"Thank you sir." Ada said as she smiled. This was her dream and it was coming true. She wanted to sing it out to the world.
"We will need some time to prepare a place for her and to set up placement tests. We will know more in the next seven-day," Almonteo said, but smiled. "But she can certainly begin packing. Thank you for coming Ada, and welcome to the Harper Hall."
