I'lek wrapped his arms around himself and shivered theatrically as he watched the little group of lower caverns workers unstrapping his cargo from Lirioth's sides. He'd been assigned to messenger duty, carrying some letters to the leader of Dragonsfall's retired wing, and of course the Headwoman had caught him on the way out with a long list of supplies to trade with the other Weyr. And somehow, in the pleasant warmth of a Dolphin Cove afternoon, he forgot how cold it got up in the southern mountain ranges and couldn't imagine needing more than a light riding jacket.
Shells, he needed to move before he turned blue and froze to the spot. As he started towards the caverns at the base of the Weyr's cliff, I'lek's gaze fell on a tall, blond man headed in the same direction, and his lips curved upward. Suddenly, he didn't feel quite so chilly...
"Hello!" He jogged to catch up with the man. "I wondered if you could direct me to the lower caverns? I was hoping to get some hot klah..." He started to turn on his most helpless, blue-eyed gaze, and then blinked. "Wait, haven't I seen you before?"
"I do get around." The bluerider winked. "K'mai, of blue Sebeth."
"I'lek, of green Lirioth from Dolphin Cove. Now where did I..." The greenrider tilted his head, thinking, then brightened. "Of course! You were at our Hatching last Turn. How could I forget? You had an injured arm, and you danced with the Weyrleader."
"Oh yeah! I had to take my chance after he had that sexy dance with Z'kim," K'mai said. "I tried to use my 'Scoring for pity, but I don't think I even needed it. He's a good sport, your Weyrleader."
"Oh, he is. Loseth has flown my Lirioth twice, so I should know," I'lek said, unable to resist although he knew boasting about another man wasn't the best way to begin a flirtation.
K'mai gasped. "Ooh, I'm so jealous! He very politely refused me."
"It was _spectacular_," I'lek said, his voice dreamy. "And not just the flight. He stayed around afterwards, while we were still feeling the dragons' lust, and we made the most of it..." His words trailed off into a wistful sigh. "But it's Z'kim who's the lucky one. He doesn't need that."
"Now I'm even more jealous!" K'mai was going to ask N'vanik about it the next time they talked. "Yes, Z'kim is a _very_ lucky man." But K'mai was lucky too, being able to have I'serin as a lover. "They're friends of mine, N'vanik and Z'kim. We got to talking after the last Hatching and they're so much fun."
"They are indeed, both of them." A sly little lift at the corner of I'lek's mouth hinted at his own delightful memories of visiting Dream's End. "Imagine, being with a Weyrleader. All of that power and authority, and they can't resist you. It's like a wonderful story."
"The most powerful man in the Weyr, on his knees in front of you. That certainly would be something," K'mai said as he pictured I'serin doing exactly that.
"Mmm." I'lek gazed wistfully into the distance for a moment, before being distracted by the prospect of gossip. "What's your new Weyrleader like, by the way? I've heard he's very good-looking...though not as handsome as ours."
"He seems . . . serious. I suppose he's nice to look at but . . ." K'mai shrugged. "I'serin is a good friend of mine, and K'valdran demoted him to Wingthird, so I can't help letting that color my perception."
"Wingthird? Ouch." I'lek winced in sympathy. "He could at least have found him a Wing."
"I don't know if he'd actually _want_ that, but K'valdran should have at least offered," K'mai said. "Instead he's too busy promoting his friends."
"Bronzeriders." The greenrider sighed. "Some of them are delightful, but some just don't know how to have a good time." He glanced up at the taller rider, a sly grin lightening his expression. "Not like us greenriders. We know there's _much_ more to life than fancy knots and titles."
"Blueriders, too." K'mai returned the smile. He'd much rather flirt than think about the new Weyrleader. "I have a bit of a reputation for parties. And orgies."
"You do?" I'lek's brows shot up in a show of surprise. "But I thought you Dragonsfall riders never took your clothes off, for fear of the cold."
K'mai laughed. "We take our clothes off _inside_, with a nice warm fire going." He shifted a little closer. "I know lots of ways to keep warm, and maybe a could show you a few before you have to get home."
"I can't deny I'm interested to see what you keep under all those layers of furs," I'lek said, laying his hand on the bluerider's arm with an enticing flutter of his eyelashes. Despite his pleasure at his good fortune, though, he didn't neglect his dragon. "Do you think your Sebeth would keep my lovely Lirioth company? I should feel so guilty about leaving her out in the cold."
"Sebeth would never let a lady freeze. Why don't we get you that klah first while he escorts her to our weyr." K'mai hardly needed to ask Sebeth if he wanted to cuddle up with a pretty green.
"All right. Let's warm me up, and then you can...warm me up," I'lek repeated with a suggestive lilt in his voice. He reached out for Lirioth, now unloaded and watching him plaintively. **We're going to stay for a while, but I've found you a nice blue to snuggle with.**
Lirioth sniffed and feigned impatience, but all the same, she preened and ruffled her wings as she looked up to the cliffs for her companion.
A midnight blue dragon glided down to land near her. }:I hear a lovely green is here from Dolphin Cove and needs help keeping warm.:{
"Right this way." K'mai led the greenrider to the Dining Cavern. "So what do you do for fun, besides seducing the Weyrleader?"
"Besides the usual for Dolphin Cove - swimming, sunbathing and parties, clothing optional?" I'lek thought, then brightened. "I like matchmaking! I've just had great success with my Wingleader. I found him such a sweet man who'd escaped from an awful hold, and now they're weyrmates." He glanced appraisingly at K'mai. "I don't suppose you're in need of a romance?"
The bluerider laughed. "No." Even if he wasn't in love with I'serin, it wasn't something he'd be looking for. "I'm very happy with the relationships I have." K'mai brushed his shoulder against I'lek's as they walked. "Though I always have room for more friends and lovers."
I'lek beamed up at him. "Oh, I'm glad. I hope those two groups aren't mutually exclusive?" he asked, teasingly, as he stopped by the serving tables to pour the klah.
"There's a considerable amount of overlap."
"That's the best way." I'lek raised his mug in a cheerful salute. As the hot, spicy drink warmed him outwards from his insides to his fingers and toes, his imagination supplied tempting images of a crackling fire in a weyr casting soft shadows on skin, of reclining on a deep hearth-rug against soft cushions... "Maybe I could apply to be admitted to both? I'm eager to audition."
"You're in." K'mai skimmed fingers along I'lek's hip. "No audition required." He couldn't wait to have fun with this cute greenrider, to strip him bare and find out what he liked. Then they could curl up together and talk, getting to know each other.
I'lek gave a happy little squeak. "You won't regret it, I promise!" He thought for a moment, then looked up coyly through his eyelashes. "But perhaps you'd like a private performance of my audition piece? It would be a shame to waste it."
"It certainly would. I promise to be a very appreciative audience." K'mai glanced down at I'lek's partly-finished mug. "Take the klah with. You can finish in my weyr."
"I can finish...and start, and everything in between." I'lek took one last sip, then slowly licked his lips with the tip of his tongue. "Lead the way."
K'mai bent down and gave I'lek a brief, warm kiss. "I couldn't resist. You're so very tempting."
"I'm a deliciously tasty treat," the greenrider replied playfully. He set down the mug and linked his arm with K'mai's. "You'll see."
