“Finally.” R’zen huffed, and rolled his shoulders, smirked at K’resh. “I’m off light duty. Let’s _do_ something.” He was so very bored.
“In a hurry to get sent back to the healers?” K’resh replied, grinning. “Yeah, I’m restless, too. Which is weird because we spend so much time busy, right? What do you wanna do? I’m up for anything!”
“I'm so _bored_.” R'zen agreed. “C'mon, if your dragon'll let you. Let's get something to eat and go exploring.” he added. “Ibranth’s asleep right now anyway.”
He snorted. “That healer was dumb. Glad it's over.”
“Rorpinth’s asleep, too. If she was awake, she’d probably want to come. Hmm, where do you wanna go? Have you been up to the Summer Lake, yet? Or we could go delving into the Lower Caverns. You never know what you’ll find in some half-forgotten storeroom somewhere.”
“Let's check out the Lower Caverns.” R'zen responded. “And then maybe you can watch me practice this cool knife toss M'sar showed me.”
He stepped towards the exit. “C'mon.”
K’resh hurried to join him. “Knife toss? That’s awesome, do you think he’d teach me?”
“Maybe.” R'zen responded, adjusted his pace for K'resh to catch up with him. “He probably won't show just _anyone_.” He added smugly. “Nazoth likes Ibranth and Ibranth likes Nazoth. Plus, I'm not a _wimp_. If you're with me, he'd probably agree. Or I'll just show you what he shows me.”
He snorted, and then continued. “I got to meet and have lunch with an actual fighting wing the other day. It was amazing. Wanna come next time? This one rider, he said I could make the Weyrleader's wing on graduation if I kept at it.”
“Yeah?” K’resh lit up almost _visibly_. “I didn’t even think to do that. Get our names out to the right people, and smash all of our lessons one-hundred percent… I mean, I know a bunch of riders already, but that’s not the same as knowing them as a _dragonrider_ myself now. Or sitting at their table. How’d you manage that?”
“I guess I impressed this older bluerider I met.” R'zen offered. “They wanted to know my name.” He added, with a little bit of a strut. “Tell you what, I'll have Ibranth give Rorpinth a notice next time I meet up with that rider and you can meet up with us.”
He paused, then added, “I mean, if we want to get ahead, we can't just smash through our lessons. We have to know the right people. Make connections. You know… go _beyond_ just what we have to do.”
K’resh nodded enthusiastically. “Be visible, so they _know_ that we’re smashing our lessons. We don’t want the wingleaders to only know us from some boring report that T’lonas gives them when we graduate. Make ‘em want to _watch_!”
“You _bet_.” R'zen agreed wholeheartedly. “C'mon, let's go… this way.” He veered left. A moment of walking, then he added, “You're from here, you said, so you can tell me if somewhere is interesting or not. Yeah?”
K’resh shrugged. “Well… there are some caves down there. If you go far enough into the Lower Caverns, there’s a couple of places we might be able to squeeze through into who-knows-what. We’re not supposed to, but…”
“As long as we don't get lost. Or caught.” R'zen responded with a shrug. “Dragonsfall is our Weyr now, right? We should figure out everything we can. Though if someplace is _seriously_ off limits, I'm not going in.” He added.
Another pause, then he continued. “On the way out, we should totally get some bubbly pie.”
“Well yeah, of _course_. We’re growing men. We have to keep up our strength after a hard exploration!” K’resh grinned wide.
R’zen grinned back. “We’ve got this.” he said, utterly assured of himself. “... I just wish O’rock and his dumb face would leave me alone.”
“Eh, don’t worry about him,” K’resh waved a hand. “You guys started off on the wrong foot, that’s all. You could probably be friends someday, if you’d let yourselves.”
“I don’t see it.” R’zen grumbled, but let it go. “Besides… I’ve got plenty of friends. You especially.” He added.
“Never can hurt to have more,” K’resh pointed out. “But I’m glad I’m number one!”
"Tch." R'zen responded, but didn't wave it off. "Don't make a big thing about it."
