A Professional meeting

Writers: Emma, Paula
Date Posted: 30th June 2006

Characters: Miranek, Corowal

Location: Emerald Falls Hold
Date: month 12, day 15 of Turn 3

"Next please," called out Miranek from the examination room. He was all prepared to perform an examination, given that he had the patient list already. The 'next please' was a courtesy.

Corowal helped his wife up. Ofelia had still over month to go but was already getting so large that she had difficulties moving.

"Greetings, master Miranek. May I introduce my wife, Ofelia. Ofelia, the master midwife I told you about."

"Greetings," the woman said with shy voice.

"It's nice to meet you at last, I've heard a lot about you," Miranek hoped his words would put the lady at ease.

"Thank you," she murmured.

"How far along are you?" Miranek had long since learnt that some women barely showed up until the day they gave birth, whilst others were proudly pregnant from the second month.

"Eight, my calculated due date is near end of month thirteen. But I always give birth earlier."

"I see." He made a note of that fact. "How has this pregnancy been so far?"
he asked. "No headaches, or swelling of the ankles or legs?"

"It's been tiring one. My back aches, my fingers and ankles are so swollen I can't fit into my shoes or wear rings," Ofelia complained.

"More tiring than previous pregnancies?"

"Yes, but that might be cause by the move here," she replied.

"She's been under lot of stress," Corowal added and stroked her hair gently.

"How have your previous deliveries been? Was the labour quick? Or long and drawn out?"

"They were rather quick ones, excepts Corolia's. She was born in breech position and it took a long time to get her out. Luckily, she was small baby."

Miranek made more notes, "It all seems in order, if you'd like to make an appointment to come back tomorrow for a proper exam?" he suggested. Let the lady get settled from her move first, was running through his head.

"Certainly," Ofelia nodded.

"Meanwhile, you just take it easy and prop your feet up, hmm?" Corowal said to her.

"Good advice. I'm sure if you still have things that need sorting out, that the Headwoman can find someone to help you."

"If you say so," Ofelia murmured.

"What are the drudges for?"

Miranek laughed. "You'll sort thing out just how you want them before this babe arrives, I'm sure."

Ofelia smiled faintly. Corowal smiled at her encouragingly.

"You could always ask my wife if there is anything you need, if you don't want to trouble the Headwoman."

"We'll do that, " Corowal replied for his wife, when it came apparent that her shyness has gotten her again.

"If I could just have a word with you," asked the healer of the steward.

Corowal nodded. "Why don't you go ahead and catch you later?" he suggested to Ofelia and escorted her out.
"What about?" he asked when she had left.

"Lord Enrizial," he said simply. "I saw him yesterday, and frankly I was concerned for his mental health. I know that he has had an 'unsettling' time the last turn or two, but I really feel he needs to see someone more qualified than myself to deal with it."

"Do you think he would need a mindhealer to check him out?" Corowal asked.
"I can't really say anything about his mental status, since I don't know him that well."

"It would be an idea, he's very withdrawn, and it is hard to be allowed to see him. He seems to have taken the deaths of his family members at Amethyst Cliff very hard."

"Yes, it's a very hard blow. I hear he was close with his sister Lindria,"
Corowal said. "To be frankly, I feel like I've been running this hold all by myself during the past month."

"Then with your permission, I'll organise for a colleague of mine to visit here."

"Please, do keep me informed," Corowal asked.
