“No, that’s definitely not it,” Cirina’s attempt at a library appropriate whisper from halfway across the room was probably more disruptive than a normal tone of voice would have been. “I remember it had different sections for all the colors even though the information was mostly all the same. I wonder if the author was paid by the word?” The redhead was rifling through shelves of books, pulling them out at seeming random before shoving them back in.
"Probably." Aydhara whispered back. She was idly flipping through Cirina's discarded books, the words inside not much more than a haze of information. They might as well have been all about the history of dirt-- she wasn't particularly interested in more books about dragons. Or firelizards. Or books, really, unless they were mysteries. Cirina had suggested getting out of Barrier Lake and it was still close enough to Imbeth's clutch hatching that N'kevyn jumped to bring her.
The slump of candidate ennui stiffened, though, when she spotted a familiar face entering the library, and what little sense of decorum she had was promptly lost. "Zaphare!" She called loudly across the library, waving and excitedly beckoning the bluerider over.
Of all the places Zaphare _might_ have been expecting someone to call her name (which was actually very few places), this was the weirdest. It took her a second to even recognize the face that was attached to the arm that was waving at her, and a split-second longer than that to remember where she knew it from.
“Oh, hey, it’s _you_!” she waved back and started over, giving Sybana’s arm a tug as an indication to come along with her. “What are you doing here? Do you just globe-trot all over the place using your parent privileges or what?”
It was a light-hearted jab; truthfully, she was a little bit relieved to see someone she knew here. Not that Sybana wasn’t someone she knew -- just maybe she’d have someone else to talk to if Sybana got lost in the stacks for a while.
“Aydhara, right? This is my friend, Sybana, Galgaith’s rider.” She looped her arm with Sybana’s, a trifle smug. She had her _own_ goldrider friend -- not the same as having a goldrider _mother_, but maybe better, actually. “Sybana, this is Aydhara. I don’t remember if you saw her or not -- she visited a few months back. She practically drooled on Zollarth. Y’know, he isn’t lying when he says he has adoring fans.”
"Friends, parents, girlfriend. What's the point in having dragonrider connections if I can't go wherever I want?" Aydhara asked. "It's nice to finally meet you, Sybana. My mom mentioned she met you a while ago. This is my friend, Cirina." She gestured towards the other redhead deep in the stacks.
“It’s good to meet you both,” Sybana agreed, brightening at the prospect of some light socialization. “And nice to finally put a face to the name. Your mother wanted to introduce us at Galgi’s hatching, but I got called away. I didn’t realize _you_ were the girl that ambushed Zaph in the ‘bowl to talk about Zollarth.” She paused, smile curving as she shared a glance with Zaphare. She hadn’t been out there to see, but she remembered the aftermath of the visit. “Galgi said he was unbearable that day.”
Speaking of the blue, Aydhara rested her chin on her hands and looked almost reverently at Zaphare. "How _is_ Zollarth? Did you get him that nice chest plate you were talking about?"
Zaphare’s eyes widened, and she put a finger to her lips quickly. “Shh! He’s forgotten about it for the moment! No, I haven’t, I’m still saving up. He remembers whenever I put his necklace on, or whenever he sees something pretty that he wants. Sybana has this dress that he’s just _wild_ about. I’m still not sure what he thinks he would do with it, but I think I can talk him into something smaller and more practical for a dragon… sort of like a saddle blanket type thing?”
Cirina came back with the armload of books she’d been gathering, though she quickly dumped them unceremoniously onto a desk, more interested in the new arrivals. “Oh, hi. I’ve heard a lot about you,” Cirina smiled at the bluerider. “And it’s nice to meet you,” Cirina turned to Sybana, “I saw your gold when you came to visit Dolphin Cove. She’s really neat looking; she’s so bright and sunshiny.”
“Isn’t she?” Sybana beamed, unable to help the little rush of pride and pleasure that always stirred when someone else saw Galgaith’s beauty-- an all too infrequent affair.
It was a bit of a presumption, but since Zaphare seemed on friendly terms with Aydhara and they all _had_ been introduced, Sybana pulled up a chair. “So what _have_ you heard about Zaphare?”
“Oh, only that she’s smart and clever - and yes I know those are the same things, and pretty and funny and did she mention smart?” Cirina was grinning, looking around for, well, everyone’s reaction. “Zaphare, you have a fan.”
By how reverently Aydhara looked at Zaphare, it was obvious Cirina was being courteous on behalf of her friend. "The blues have impeccable taste in women, I don't make the rules."
There wasn’t much that could catch Zaphare off guard, really, but as much as she might pretend otherwise sometimes, she wasn’t used to being complimented, or thought particularly highly of. “Ha ha, yeah, Zollarth is known for having great judgment.” She rolled her eyes. “Aydhara just wants to know all my secrets so she can steal my dragon. If only I had any to share.”
"If only Zollarth could be bribed." Aydhara said in deadpan disappointment. "I want a blue to Impress _me_, but I'll steal one on the hatching sands if I have to. How did you get Galgaith to pick you, Sybana?"
“Oh, I brought a sausage on the sands to try to lure her to me,” said Sybana with a dry laugh at her own desperation. “I suppose I felt like you do-- I wanted to do anything I possibly _could_ to Impress the gold. But it didn’t matter in the end, I don’t think bribing dragons works. Galgi found me _despite_ the sausage. She said it smelled foul. Only raw meat for her.”
