"I saw M'van this after noon." The wingsecond began, settling into a chair. He didn't want to tell U'das they'd be out next Fall but orders from a healer couldn't be ignored.
"About what?" The bald wingleader asked, shifting his attention from hides to his wingsecond.
"Kenaranth, he strianed his right wing a bit and M'van wants him grounded till next fall."
"I'm sorry to hear that. How did it happen?" U'das asked. His sympathy was on the young bronzerider's side. Zack had strained his wings often enough, usually when he was trying to catch some agile green.
"Chasing greens. How else does a bronze strain a wing?" J'ren laughed rufuly.
"Yes, that's typical. Some of those greens are just too fast and agile for our big guys," U'das grinned. "Zack's do that few times too."
"The wing'll be all right wihtout us right?" J'ren was alittle nervous.
They'd not been out often.
"We will survive," U'das assured. "You just concentrate on getting Kenaranth back to his wings."
"I will. If theres anything you need me to do while he's grounded let me know." At least this would give him a chance to get caught up on hidwork.
"There's always the hidework," U'das grinned. "And... you could keep few ground drills to the newest wingriders."
"When do we get them anyway?" J'ren asked. He knew the seniors where just about ready to graduate.
"I don't know exactly yet, but it can't be long now."
"I'll check with the weyrlingmaster and see what he says."
"You do that," U'das agreed. "Since you know have the time."
J'ren groaned mockingly. "He might "borrow" me."
"I hope not. I need you in my wing more," U'das growled. The better he learned to know the younger rider, the more the wingleader liked him.
He was starting to have paternal feelings towards J'ren.
"I'll tell him he can take it up with you then." J'ren grinned at his wingleader. He'd no idea of how the older bronzerider felt, but J'ren thought of him as a good replacement for the father he'd never really known.
"You do that," U'das said.
"I'm off then, have a good afternoon U'das." The bronzerider offerd the older man a smile.
"You too, lad," U'das answered fondly.
