Almonteo

Almonteo

What fantastic news! How exciting it must be for Carala and her husband!
Almonteo was waiting on edge all day for his work to end so he could run the letter up to Carmora and share the news with her.

He strode into his quarters with a proud grin on his face and walked straight over to his wife and planted a healthy kiss on her lips. Pulling back, he proclaimed, "I've had news from Carala and Sazukin. Carsa was found on Search last week."

"She... she was?" She could tell that Almonteo was thrilled, but she was not nearly as pleased as she might have been a few months ago. Now that she knew what the Weyr was really like... shards, it was hard enough to imagine her daughter there! Her _granddaughter_ though... "Yes," the Hallmaster grinned, pulling his wife close to him, "and the girl can't be more excited. Its all she can talk about. They're coming to pick her up the restday after next, and Carala has asked if we could come and visit before she leaves."

That, at least, was something she could be honestly pleased with. "Do you have time to go?"

"Yes, my love. This time I will _make_ time to go." He kissed the tip of her nose softly. "I don't think I want to spend any more time on the sofa anytime soon," he said with a teasing wink.

"So when are we leaving?" Meaning how long would she have to perfect her false excitement. It would be wrong to show how upset she was about the idea in front of her family, but she wasn't missing the opportunity to see her family with Almonteo at her side.

"I'll send a message to Almora and see if she's available on the restday.
And if she's not," he shrugged, "I think I can arrange for a Dolphin Cove rider to take us."

Carmora nodded absently, slipping from her husband's arms. "I suppose I'll have to make sure everything's in order, then... do you want me to find anything special to bring with us?" If she avoided his gaze and kept herself busy for a few candlemarks, she might be able to keep him from realizing how upset she was about the news. It was a nice thought, at least, even if she _knew_ her husband wouldn't be so easily fooled. "No, I don't think so. I think Carala will settle for just you and I."
Almonteo knew something about this news didn't please his wife nearly as much as it pleased him. "It will be nice having Carsa to close-by. We never were able to spend as much time with her as we would have liked."

"Will she stay with us, then? Or with the candidates?" For the first time, she felt a bit of hope and spun to face her husband. "With the Hall accepting girls now... Almonteo, maybe she'd like to apprentice! There are plenty of harpers here who were candidates as well, but if she doesn't Impress... wouldn't it be wonderful to have her in the Hall?" And away from the dragonriders...

"If he wants to live with us that would be fine, but she way want to stay with young people around her own age instead of two old people." Despite as young as he still felt, he knew in the eyes of youth he was practically on his last leg. "But I think you're right. It would be good for her to pick up a craft while she's here."

"Well, she doesn't necessarily have to stay with _us_," Carmora replied absently. "But she could stay with the other girls from the Hall."

Almonteo shrugged. "She would be welcome to, of course, but nothing says she will want to studying to be a _harper_. After all, here there are a whole world of possibilities for her."

"A whole world of possibilities," Carmora echoed. She just wished she could stop thinking about all the possibilities that would keep her up at night...
