Aleriand

They'd done it! He and Genireth had finally made it past graduation and were free to do whatever they wanted! Well, mostly. Being only fourteen Turns, O'dyn was too young to join one of the big Wings yet but that wasn't going to stop him from staying busy!

But first, he had been waiting _months_ to do this with Genireth. Months! And now, O'dyn was carefully remembering every detail about Printer Hall so that Genireth could find it because they were _not_ going to get stuck /between/! Not now, not after so long, and not ever!

When Genireth reappeared over Printer Hall, O'dyn let out a whoop of success and relief. }: I don't know why you worry so much, :{ Genireth said as he fanned his wings out into a spiral landing, }: You give me very clear coordinates. :{

"I know," O'dyn said as he scritched the neck ridge in front of him lovingly. "I just don't ever want to get lost /between/! We've got so much fun to have!" He beamed brightly as he looked down. Printer Hall! Home! Well, his other home. Sorta. Maybe not really now. Could someone have more than one home? That seemed like a question for adults.

"Wait here! I'll be right back!" O'dyn promised Genireth as he dismounted. He didn't quite _run_ into the Hall but he definitely didn't walk slowly. He was too eager! And he knew exactly who could help him fulfill this request. "Master Aleriand!" O'dyn shouted happily as he barged into the printing room.

The Hall had been so quiet the last six months, Aleriand realized as the smallest dragonrider burst back into the Printerhall. His little riding leathers and helmet looked silly, like a caricature of the grown riders.

"Wingrider O'dyn." Aleriand greeted. "And how is young Genireth? Hopefully he doesn't mind the attention that's about to bear down on him." Maybe having the crafthall at the Weyr had been a bad idea- all the apprentices were too confident in approaching the massive animals.

O'dyn's chest puffed with pride at the greeting. "He's great! He's..." His head cocked the side and his eyes had that distant look of a rider talking to his dragon. "He says thank you for the concern and he's fine as long as no one steps on his tail." If Aleriand could see the young blue, he would have seen that Genireth had indeed curled his tail around his feet, tucking it away so that it didn't get stepped on as young crafters crowded him.

"They should have more respect than that." Aleriand looked out at the apprentices, a scowl beginning on his face. But they didn't immediately appear to cause any harm, and Aleriand turned back to the blueriding kiddo. "You aren't in the Wings yet, correct? So you have plenty of time to work for us?"

"No sir, not yet!" Odyn answered with a grin. But then he realized that what he said could have been confusing! "I mean, no Master, we're not in the Wings yet so yes, sir, we can help the Hall! Well, when we aren't doing our other dragonrider duties."

"I'm sure your Weyrlingmaster won't mind you taking on a paper route for your old Hall." Aleriand said with a wave of a hand. "Keeps you busy and practicing your locations, right? We'll even keep you in the protectorate if you want. Is Genireth up for it?"

Practicing locations sounded great! O'dyn was still very, very scared to go /between/ and practicing it was something that the Weyrlingmaster had also suggested to him so this was just perfect! And Genireth -- "Um...let me ask him!" O'dyn's head turned in the rough direction of his dragon and his eyes went fuzzy with hard thought.

}: This will make you happy and we'll be practicing. But does it involve that dictionary thing you wanted to see? :{

"Oh, right! Yes!" O'dyn suddenly said, forgetting that he had an audience. He smacked his forehead. "The dictionary!"

Aleriand stared at the kid and frowned, not hearing the conversation nor the context. "What?"

"I promised Genireth that I would show him a dictionary! I've been telling about it ever since he hatched because it has all of the words in it and he knows that I love words and I wanted to show him what one looked like," O'dyn explained excitedly.

Aleriand didn't know what he had expected but that wasn't it, and he wasn't entirely sure what to do with it now that he had it. "Sure. But be careful with it around him. He's big and not going to understand what you're trying to show him."

"I will! I promise!" the boy vowed. "It's...is it the library still?"

"We haven't moved anything in your absence." Aleriand promised. "Come see me when you and Genireth are done, we'll write out a schedule to send to your Weyrlingmaster. R'lor hasn't quit yet, has he?"

"No sir!" Was there a reason why R'lor would quit? Was Master Aleriand making a joke? There were a lot of questions O'dyn wanted to ask but he was also really excited about getting to work with Printer Hall again and he couldn't wait to show Genireth the dictionary so he didn't want to ask questions _just yet_ but maybe later and this was going to be great! "I'll be back after I show Genireth! I can't wait!"
