It had taken some sevendays to complete but the weavers had used their
expertise willingly and masterfully. Today, the new tapestry was ready
to be viewed by a privileged few, though it would be hung later in
grand celebration.

Mirona, in her capacity as assistant to the Headwoman, was one of the
ones invited, though she also nursed a quiet pride that it had been
_her_ idea. She swept into the weavers' space, hoping to be the first
one there, but she was beaten by a familiar face. "Journeyman," she
greeted with a graceful curtsey, her eyes meeting his with their usual
assertiveness.

Coran's smile came readily as he turned and saw Mirona. "Milady," he
nodded to her. "Are you excited?" he asked, his hands were shoved into
his pockets. The tapestry was still hidden beneath a white sheet,
waiting to be revealed.

Her smile was guarded but her pride twinkled in her dark eyes. "A
little. With any luck, this will be a great centerpiece for all to
appreciate. Something that echoes the verdant beauty all around us and
shows the heart of the Hold." The more she spoke, the less guarded her
smile became. This was something tangible that she could pin her
efforts on, even if she hadn't physically made the piece.

"Is everyone ready?" The Master Weaver questioned, calling for silence
for those gathered in the room.

Coran, who had been whispering something to Mirona, immediately quit
talking like a scolded youngster.

The Master Weaver smiled smugly before ripping the white cloth off of
the tapestry with a flashy billow. Spread out before them was a piece
boasting every verdant shade that the weavers could dye: the mossy and
sage greens of the vines that grew over parts of the Hold, the emerald
and basil hues of the crops, the olive of fallow fields, the fern of
new growth. The colors swirled like a sea of green currents.

Mirona's smile deepened. "What do you think, journeyman?" she asked Coran.

"Wow," Coran said, genuinely meaning it as he approached the tapestry.
He bent close to inspect the colors and the detailed craftsmanship.
"This is beautiful, Master Zsiferel. Reven and Arippa are going to be
so pleased." He looked at Mirona.

Mirona didn't know who either of those people were but she had heard
those names before. Were they higher rank than Coran? What power did
they hold? She would have to ask someone discreetly. And just like
that, she realized she had slipped into her maneuvering ways. She
sighed inwardly. It was hard to stop that sometimes. But to answer
Coran's question, "Indeed. The weavers have outdone themselves again,
Master Zsiferel. And in such a short time! When do we unveil it?"

"When the Holder and his wife return, of course," Zsiferel answered.

Coran nodded in agreement. "They had planned on being back already,
but recent events with Lord Corofel have required them to extend their
stay."

Mirona nodded. She tried not to bounce on her toes or shift too much.
She didn't want to give away her excitement. "Will we hear from them
soon, I wonder?" she asked. "So that we can prepare the Hold for their
homecoming." Without really knowing the power dynamic between all of
the people, it was hard for her to gauge if her question was being
impatient.

"I'll write to them. It would be nice, since they had to unexpectedly
extend their time at Emerald Falls, if they would allow us to go ahead
and unveil it to the Hold in their absence," Coran said.

"Emerald Falls?" Mirona asked. "What's there?" That was interesting.
What were they doing at the main Hold for the region? And for so long?

"Well," Coran gestured for Mirona to walk with him. "There's been a
bit of a mystery at Emerald Falls. A few months back their Lord
Holder, Corowal, went missing. He's still never been found. He has an
heir, though, Corofel. He's only eighteen, and was still being
fostered at Amber Hills went his father went missing. The Lord
Holder's Conclave didn't feel he was ready to fully take over such a
large Holding, so they called Reven to Emerald Falls to act as his
Warder."

Mirona tapped her lip thoughtfully as Coran caught her up. How much
she had missed at the Weyr! But also, what was she to do with this
information? Was there a way to use it to endear this family to her?
Could she--

No, that was her old self talking. She had her son to think about now.
She had to use other skills to provide for him. "Eighteen is quite
young to take charge, even if it's considered the age of majority,"
she agreed. "The Conclave is wise to assign a warder. For how long,
did they say?"

"They didn't give a time frame, necessarily. Just until 'he's ready,'
but then he went and had a scandal at Turns End and now Reven's stay
has been extended." Coran lifted his eyebrows. "Apparently, young
Corowal was seen taking liberties with an unmarried young lady, and
not just any young lady...." The healer leaned in to whisper, "Lady
Arippa's _twin_ sister."

Mirona's lips were controlled in a mash of polite intrigue but her
eyes were deeply curious. "Her twin?" she echoed. "Hopefully there
wasn't a mix up on that." Trust Holders to be interested in a scandal.
At the Weyr, hardly anyone cared who slept with whom. It was something
that had initially bothered Mirona, but then had become something of a
personal freedom. Up until Mirasoren had been born. "Journeyman, tell
me that you aren't perpetuating _rumors_," she whispered back with a
teasing lilt to her tone.

"Me? Never." Coran blinked big, guileless eyes at Mirona, before
smirking a little and winking. "Have you had lunch yet?" he asked.

She shook her head. Her dark eyes twinkled, anticipating the next offer.

“Care to join me?” he offered, as predicted.

Mirona linked arms with him, a grin spreading across her face. "Absolutely."
