L'keri

It was the dead of the night. The hallway was deserted, which N’kyri took as a good sign. Quietly, he eased open the door. It creaked. He winced, but no one seemed to stir from down the corridor. Quickly he slipped in, hurrying L’keri after him, and let the door fall shut behind the two men. It took a moment for his eyes to adjust to the gloom, but that didn’t matter, he knew where he was. Cobalt Wing’s meeting room.

Flipping open a glow basket he grinned at L’keri. “Time for a little redecoration…”

L'keri's eyes brightened in anticipation as he handed over one of the two bags he'd been carrying. "Yes, these have been gathering dust in the storerooms for far too long. Now we've liberated them, we can put them to much better use."

From the first bag, the larger but lighter of the two, like a conjuror performing a trick, he drew out a long line hung with cloth pennants in Cyan Wing's colors. "Haven't seen these since our triumph in the last Weyr games! This brings back memories."

"I hope it stirs memories for them too," said N'kyri as he dug through the heavy bag. "Cobalt could use a fresh reminder of how we smoked them in the relay-- and if that doesn't do the trick, this certainly should..." Pulling out a brush and a pot of blue paint, he went to the wall directly behind the wingleader's chair and set to work painting.

"Imagine their faces when they have to listen to their next wing briefing with that as a backdrop." The brownrider began stringing the decorations around the room, looping the line tightly around the light fittings so it would be difficult to remove. "If only there was some way for us to watch! It's too bad neither of us has a firelizard."

N'kyri stepped back to admire his handiwork, grinning as the paint began to dry, the bold lettering spelling out one of the unofficial slogans of their wing: Cyan soars where others fall, we’re the mightiest of them all!

"We'll have to hear about it secondhand," N'kyri mused, going over to lend a hand with the pennants. "They should count themselves lucky though. We _could_ have gone with the wherry plan... hung a little placard around its neck that said 'R'enh'. _That_ would cause some chaos_."

"That's a scene I'd definitely want to watch." L'keri snickered as he tied off the end of the line. "Sounds like the beginning of a joke. How many Cobalt wingriders does it take to chase a wherry out of a meeting room?"

"A full wing," quipped N'kyri promptly. "They need to hold an all-hands meeting first to discuss _proper_ wherry handling protocol, but in the end they'll assign one blue or greenrider to do the actual job." Stepping back from the secured line, N'kyri surveyed the room. It was coming together. The pennants blanketed the walls, the bright cyan popping against the handful of darker cobalt decorations that lived there. His slogan was drying nicely too, big and bold behind the wingleader's chair.

Reaching into his jacket he pulled out a small pile of place cards and handed half to L'keri. "Here, some finishing touches. I got the idea from the high table at the last hatching. The paper cost a pretty bunch of marks, but it'll be worth it." Folding the first card into a little tent, he placed it on the table to declare that spot the seat of: 'Lord of Lunch Breaks.' Next to him was 'Drilldodger,' 'Snoresmith,' and "Master of Missing Formations.'

"Ooh!" L'keri riffled through the cards, snorting at a few. "Great idea! Did you make these up with any particular riders in mind?" He held up one. "Who's 'Greenchaser', and what about 'Madame Mischief'?"

"Oh, Greenchaser is K'fasa. He thinks he's such a charmer. And Madame Mischief is Gienah-- but honestly, I don't know where any of them sit, besides R'enh, so we'll just have to put them down and let them sort it out. I know if _I_ saw our wingmates being called out like this I'd push them to sit in the right chairs."

"True. I could think up a few choice titles for _our_ Wing leadership, after that early drill yesterday morning. 'Master Torturer' and 'Sir Sidekick', maybe." L'keri backed up to the far end of the room to admire their handiwork. "Perfect."

A slight frown creased his brow as a thought occurred to him. "You don't think they might want to take revenge on us, do you?"

"I'd like to see them try," N'kyri grinned.
