"Journeyman," greeted the Healer as he walked past. His younger son was running on ahead, chasing after a golden haired, floppy eared puppy.

"Good afternoon, Master Miranek," Theyzen smiled. "New puppy?"

"Yes, that's Goldie." He glanced after the canine and his son, who seemed to have stopped and be involved in some sort of mock tussle.
"She's a beautiful little thing."

"That she is. I can't believe True was ever that small."

"Just like one day you'll look at your son and say the same thing," the Healer said. "They just keep on growing."

"I suppose that's true," Theyzen smiled. "My little Thevan has grown so much I can't believe it. He's crawling already. Another few months and he'll be walking."

"And talking too."

"I suppose that's true," the woodsmith smiled. "He's making a lot of sounds already, just not ones that I can understand yet."

"To him they'll have meaning. I'm willing to bet that he'll be making certain noises when he's happy, and others if something is bothering him."

"Oh, you can't help but hear when Thevan is bothered," Theyzen chuckled.
"That boy has lungs a harper would envy."

"Everyone says that about their children when they are young. Doesn't mean that they'll all become Harpers though." He smiled, "If it were possible, I think my daughter would like to try the harper craft, but the Lord Holder and his opinion..." His voice trailed off, everyone was only to well aware of why the Harper Hall had left Emerald Falls.

"You'd send your daughter to the _Weyr_?" Theyzen asked in surprise.

"I didn't say that. Had the Harpers stayed, she was going to see if they would accept her as a student."

The journeyman nodded. "Yes, but the Harper Hall is at the Weyr now from what I understand..."

"It is, and perhaps not a suitable place for my daughter. She's rather young for her age."

"I'm not so sure its a suitable place for _any_ man's daughter," Theyzen said in a lowered voice. "I am grateful to dragonriders, of course, but the things I hear that happen at the Weyr..."

"I visited a weyr once," said Miranek thoughtfully. "They had a need for a healer with my speciality."

"What was it like?"

"Big, many more people there than I thought. Not all of them were dragonriders, and women were accepted in all crafts. It was an interesting experience, and one I'll probably never have again."

"Were there... naked women?" Theyzen asked in a curious whisper. "I hear not all the women wear their clothing in public."

"I never saw any, at least not those outside of the infirmary," replied Miranek.

"How about men doing... well, unnatural things with other men? I hear about that too."

"Well. That might have happened, but to be honest, I was only there long enough to deliver a babe, and eat."

"Ah, I see." Theyzen's voice held a twinge of disappointment. He was hoping to know what the Weyr was really like from someone who had actually been there. It was highly unlikely that _he_ would ever be asked to the Weyr. They probably had carpenters and woodworkers aplenty. _Females_ even, if what he heard was true.

"Da!" Before Miranek could reply, they were interrupted by his youngest son. "I think Goldie wants to go home."

"Does that mean you want to go back?" asked the Healer.

Valnek nodded. "I should get them home," said Miranek to Theyzen.

"Yes, of course. Sorry to have kept you," the journeyman said with an apologetic smile. "Take care of your pup, young man," the woodsmith said as he squatted down to let the energetic little beast lick his face ferociously. "She'll be your best friend for many turns to come."

"I hope so," replied the boy.
