M'yvak

"You are _never_ going to guess what kind of Candidate I brought to the Weyr today," M'yvak said as he took a seat beside of L'kav in the Dining Hall. "Go on," he insisted, shoving a grape into his mouth and lifted his eyebrows. "Guess."

"Alright. Hmm." No need to ask him twice. L'kav turned and swung a leg sideways so that he was facing the bluerider with a contemplative stare. A few options raced by -- shipwreck survivor, trader kid, a Lord Holder's daughter on her wedding day -- but in the end he had to go with what excited him most-

"Holdless?" He guessed, only briefly thinking ahead to all the things he wanted to ask such a person.

"OH!" M'yvak's eyes lit up. "A _Holdless_, wouldn't that be novel? Especially if it were a roguishly handsome individual..." He shook his head. "But it wasn't. I brought a person in who _Hears_All_Dragons."

L'kav bounced his eyebrows, amused that they were thinking some of the same things, then froze mid-bounce. "Shards. Really? A Hears All?" All the questions he'd pose to a Holdless person felt just as relevant at that answer. "And he still came with Pesrath?" He grinned.

}: Darling, that was unkind. :{ Feyonth's tone wasn't the least bit chastising.

"Where did you pluck this one from?" L'kav inclined a little more against the table and took a sip of klah, intrigued.

"Well," M'yvak leaned forward as if it were particularly juicy. "I didn't actually pluck him from _anywhere_. I was flying between a couple of cotholds on the outskirts of Amber Hills when Pesrath heard someone in distress. He spied Aedris, that's the Candidate, on the road being stalked by a wild feline! Pesrath swooped in just in time to kill the feline and save Aedris." He sighed a little. "I know that sounds like a harper's tale, but that's the absolute truth."

'Hears All Dragons' and 'wild feline' had been more than enough to hinge L'kav's attention and for a moment his mouth just hung open. "M'yvak," he leaned in as well, "that's the craziest thing I've ever heard... It _does_ sound like a harper's tale," he admitted, amazed. "So, you're telling me that someone who was walking alone in the woods and nearly got eaten, heard your dragon, or you know they heard each other, is now here and can also hear all our dragons? _And_ is a Candidate?" Was this a Searchrider's dream, or a holdkid's nightmare? "This kid's got more Weyr-ish experiences than half the kids born here."

"Right? If he doesn't Impress to FaranthTwoth, the Super Bronze, then it will really be an anticlimactic end to an otherwise thrilling story." M'yvak loved that L'kav could fully appreciate the outlandishness of the story.

"He's gonna have to now. You and Pesrath just found the future Weyrleader." L'kav nodded knowingly, throwing him a wink.

What a shock this place was to any holdkid, but to someone who was suddenly tuned in to all those strong voices and feelings, maybe even all at once?

"So did he know he can Hear All prior to the most valiant blue's rescue?" L'kav sipped his klah with L'val and Lanniya immediately springing to mind as possible guides.

"If he becomes Weyrleader I'll, _obviously_, have to be appointed to his Special Council." M'yvak tore a piece of bread apart and popped part of it in his mouth. "He had _no idea_ he could hear dragons. Apparently, he lived so far out that Pesrath was the first one he'd ever been close enough with to hear. Can you imagine the shock of it? Coming out of /between/ into a Weyr full of chatty dragons?"

"It would be the least he could do." L'kav said with a sage nod.

Feyonth's irritation bubbled beneath his temples, his eyes forced into a half-squint. Her voice was practically a huff. }: Am I allowed to tell him not to talk to me unless I talk to him first? :{

**You really won't need to worry about that any time soon, love. He's hearing so much he probably can't hear anything.**

}: But _is it allowed_? :{

**I... don't know. We'll address that if he suddenly starts reaching out to talk to you all the time.**

}: Oh don't say things like that. He probably will. :{ She scolded, positively aghast. }: I'm going to have to tell him. :{

"All I know is that I hear one opinionated voice all the time and that's more than enough for me. Must be the equivalent of keeping your head under a waterfall." He grinned-grimaced. After so many Turns a rider, L'val seemed to have it in mostly in hand, but that was no reason to suspect it was easy. He'd have to ask his brother more about it- what is was like to touch and be touched by so many voices at once.

Then pivoting back to another thought, L'kav asked mildly, "so what did you do with this wild feline? Hang its pelt on your wall?"

"I wish," M'yvak lamented. "Pesrath tore the hide up pretty good and then flung the carcass off through the woods like a piece of garbage."

}:It was a mangy pest,:{ Pesrath butted in.

**But we could have had that pelt hanging on our _wall_. A trophy.**

}:I don't need a trophy to prove my greatness.:{

"Pesrath's being sassy about it," M'yvak told L'kav.

"Oh I know the feeling." L'kav snorted in sympathy, chewing a piece of roasted meat. Feyonth's opinion on trophies was that she had no strong opinions on trophies. It was doubtful she'd even notice if the few bookending their weyr suddenly vanished. "Well he was very brave." He noted, smiling. "And anyone who hears of this will know he's brave."

"M'yvak," he smoothed a hand through his hair, a thought occurring to him, "has Pesrath considered the impact of telling his heroic tale with a visual aide? Visiting greens and their riders getting to look at such a beast in front of its' slayer? It would add to the drama. Greens are such visual creatures."

"Let me check," M'yvak relayed L'kav's idea to Pesrath. And received a searing retort. "Well," the bluerider held both hands up as if he'd been burned, "according to Pesrath, he doesn't care what greens or their riders think of _his_ weyrledge. Let me tell you," he said this beneath his breath, as if Pesrath couldn't hear, "he certainly sings a different tune when he's chasing a green in flight."

"So, I'm guessing he doesn't want to go hunting wildcats anytime soon? We could use his expertise." L'kav arched a brow.

A certain green's irritation sizzled with all the ominousness of an approaching storm again, which only intensified when he did absolutely nothing to acknowledge it. "And you know... Fey does something similar. Says she never wants to just be someone's prize, or proof of another dragon's skill." L'kav's voice lowered as well, like they were sharing close-kept secrets. "But... when it's time..." here his smile became pure sunshine, "She's all about the attention, them _wanting_ and thinking they can't have. Their _glory_ when they manage to catch her."

}: Do _NOT_ tell him that! :{ Feyonth shrieked from the rim.

But a slight wince was all that rippled as he added, fondly, "Even she likes to be hunted now and then."

M'yvak, who had just taken a gulp of drink, nearly spewed it out when Pesrath belted, }:_That's_ the kind of hunting I want to do!:{

"Apparently," M'yvak spluttered, "Pesrath is more than ready to be the hunter if Feyonth is the prey."

"Is that right?" L'kav cocked his head curiously and repeated the sentiment to his other half. His affection for this blue and rider was readily apparent, though for Feyonth to feel even a shade flattered and embarrassed was surprising, especially since most of the time males seemed the same as trees to her. Boring.

"Apparently Pesrath is welcome to try."

}: Darling, change the subject. Please. Now. :{ It was a whine, it was a demand, it was a threat.

L'kav just chuckled into his mug. "Well, she's no wild feline hunt, Pes. Or potential Candidate. She can be a handful."

"Pesrath and I like a challenge." M'yvak winked.

"Mm yes, you two are becoming the stuff of legends, aren't you." L'kav replied warmly, nothing questioning about his tone. "Aedris has come to the right place."
