Corofel

Corofel

Be visible. That had been Reven’s first bit of advice on how to convince the Hold that they could trust him to lead them. Corofel was still working on such trivialities as a “permanent administrative staff”, but in the interim, he could do everything he could to get to know the people who would be relying on him until his father returned.

He would return. He had to.

So, in order to be visible, Corofel was out and about, speaking to everyone he could. This morning, that included Master Healer Rhudas.

“Good morning, Master Rhudas. How are you holding up?”

When the bell over his door chimed that morning, he hadn't expected the new Lord Holder to be at his clinic. Fortuitous indeed. "Good morning, my lord. I'm doing all right. We're hoping your Father returns safely to us soon. Have you received any word from him? Any sign of what might have happened?"

Corofel’s face fell. Thus far, he had received nothing of the sort, and the search for him had yet to turn anything up.

“Thank you for your kind wishes,” he said. “But I haven’t. I wanted to come and speak to you personally about anything you need or anything that you’re having trouble with so I can help get it straightened out for you.”

"Well, I appreciate the gesture. I don't need for much. Have you appointed a new Seneschal yet? Your parents had taken on so much without one."

“We’re still searching for someone to take the position on a permanent basis,” said Corofel. “Did you know someone who might be interested?”

"I think I might. I can send you a list of gentlemen and you can see if any suit you." Rhudas said. "Aside from this trouble, how have you been settling in? Is the Hold everything you remember?"

“More or less,” said Corofel. He had only been gone for five Turns, but given everything that had changed, it felt like the place he had grown up in did not really exist anymore. Or else, if it did, he could never really reach it. He wondered for a moment whether if he showed Tonuth the place he remembered with all the people he missed still there, if he could take him there _between_.

“Thank you for your help, Master Rhudas. It's much appreciated.”

"Oh, I'm not entirely doing it out of the goodness of my heart." The master healer said with a smile. "My wife asked that I extend an invitation to you for dinner at my home. She and my daughter are keen to see you again. It has been five turns, after all."

“I'd be honored,” said Corofel. “I’ll check with Reven to make sure I've got the room in my schedule, and then it would be my pleasure to join you and your family for dinner.”

"Of course. Let me know what works for you. Laine makes the best bubbly pie, if I can bribe you with sweets." Rhudas chuckled. "And as you can probably tell, I've got my own motivations for inviting you over."

“It’s actually a bit refreshing that you're not playing coy about it, to be honest,” said Corofel. “I can't promise that I'll marry your daughter, but I can promise she has a much better chance if I get to know her.”

"Hah. At my age, one doesn't have the patience to play games." Rhodes said with a chuckle. "Though I'm sure my wife has a different opinion. If she asks, I was appropriately vague and extolled my daughter's many virtues."

“Oh, of course.” Corofel crossed his heart with his finger. “Your secrets are safe with me.”

A quirk of a smile momentarily appeared on the master healer's face. "I appreciate your discretion on the matter, my lord. My family looks forward to seeing you."
