The keening went on and on. Growing in volume, morphing in pain, finally becoming a voice that said"
}:WAKE UP!:{
N’kyri awoke with a start, thrashing back to consciousness amid a tangle of sweat soaked sheets to find himself in the inky darkness of his weyr. He was safe on the ground. The ‘fall was over. They rose, they met it under the midday sun. It was over. His own Cyan Wing made it through alright, but the /keening/. U’thirn was gone. There one moment, gone the next. Gone. Hit by a bad tangle of Thread and eaten to the waist before poor Certath had time to /between/. B’runai had died similarly back at Far Island, and H’mashel, and"
}:Stop.:{ Oriath’s voice cut through his thoughts again.
In bed, N’kyri’s breath began to steady and slow as he embraced the blue’s presence in his mind" a wellspring of calm. They stayed like that for a while. Ori offering the gentle strength of his thoughts as N’kyri slowly oriented himself back in the here and now. Finally:
}:You got stuck in the past again.:{
**I did,** N’kyri sighed, turning so he could see out to the ledge where Oriath slept. He normally kept the dividing curtains pushed back when the weather was good and now he could see the blue’s head hovering in the archway, eyes whirling with concern. **I’m alright now. Thanks for calling me.**
}:I don’t like your “dreams.” I don’t like when you go places without me.:{ It was a gentle admonishment. They had been over this enough that Oriath knew N’kyri didn’t do it on purpose, but he didn’t _like_ it.
Kicking off his sheets, N’kyri flipped open a glow and began pulling on some clothes. **How about we go somewhere now, together?**
Oriath could feel his rider’s energy changing. The dark pall was lifting, twisting, becoming a restless energy he recognized. Vague memory told him that “Trouble” sometimes followed these moods, but that was better at least. Happier. Though certainly not “happy.” They could handle “Trouble” together. }:Alright,:{ he agreed, stretching his sleep-stiff limbs. He didn’t protest that it was the middle of the night. His lifemate didn’t want to sleep any more. That much was clear.
It didn’t take N’kyri long to get into a fresh set of leathers, and then he joined Oriath out on the ledge. The moons, though clearly on their descent, were still up" but they wouldn’t be up everywhere on Pern. So he harnessed his dragon and whispered mind-to-mind,
**Let’s go chase the sun.**
