Location: Dragonsfall Weyr

Lanniya quickly sat upright in bed, finally realizing why she couldn't
sleep. Her stomach rumbled in complaint as she looked down at her
sleeping weyrmate. She'd accosted him the moment he'd stepped into the
weyr. He hadn't complained at all about her greatly increased libido;
the poor man was konked out and it was entirely her fault, but this
was _important_. She shook his shoulder. "K'ale, K'ale...wake up.
There's a problem. "
K'ale came awake suddenly and leaped out of bed. "What, what!" He
demanded ready to run for the healers if necessary.
"I need a melon." She looked at him earnestly, the thought of the
melon making her mouth water. "I don't have any melon and I _have_ to
have one."
He tried to dash the sleep from his eyes and his brow furrowed. "You
need a what?" He couldn't quite wrap his mind around what she was
saying.
"A melon." Lanniya's voice took on a pleading tone as she knelt on the
bed. "The kind with the orange flesh that just drips with juice. I
have to have one." The thought made her groan. "Dripping with juice. A
big one. The kind that you can cut in half and just drink the juice
out of the middle. That kind. And I can't go get it because I'm sure
we don't have any in the kitchens. But I really really _NEED_ one,
K'ale. Can you go get one? Please?" Batting her lashes at him, she
purposefully made her eyes large and wistful. "Please?"
"Where do they even have those this time of year," he chuckled at her antics.
She shifted her weight from knee to knee and looked sheepish.
"Tropical areas? But I _really_ need it, K'ale. My stomach is about to
reach out of my throat and start begging." She paused and then smiled
sweetly. "Think of the baby. The _baby_ wants the melon."
He sighed and sat down heavily and began to pull on his pants. "Okay,
okay," he said shoving his feet first into socks then boots. Standing,
he turned to face her while he buttoned his shirt. "I'll try and find
a melon. But you need to go back to sleep."
She wiggled behind him on the bed, wrapping her arms around him while
kissing his cheek repeatedly. "You're the best weyrmate ever." Her
stomach then decided to make an audible growl of complaint. "I can't
sleep when I'm so hungry. How long is it gonna take you?"
"No clue," he answered as he pushed into his flight jacket. "I don't
know where to find them so there will be a bit of a search involved."
He pushed his helmet on and turned to leave. "I'll have Imalkyth tell
you when we find it." He sighed heavily hoping he be back in time to
get some sleep before drills tomorrow.
"Dolphins Cove might have melons right now. They always have fruit.
Cyradis wouldn't mind." Still bare and kneeling in the bed, she
smiled up at him. "I love you, K'ale. I'll show you just how much
when you get back. And I'm done eating. "
"Is that where you got them before," he asked. "We rarely have them
here." He'd planned on trying to see if his da would ask Yanley but
felt bad about waking them in the middle of the night. It would be
morning in Dolphin Cove so if that was where she'd had them that was
the first place he'd go.
She nodded eagerly. "Yes, but sometimes we'd get some from Sunstone at
Riverbluff. They were different kinds of melons though. But still
good." Her stomach rumbled again, and Lanniya felt she was about to
start drooling. "Even the red juicy kind with the black seeds would be
good."
"I'll go to Dolphin Cove first and be back as soon as I can," he said
and hurried out to put his straps on Imalkyth. Soon he was in the air
and between a few moments later. Walking into the dining hall, the
place was fairly full with diners so he walked to the serving tables
and found fruit galore. "Can I get some of that melon to take with
me?" He asked one of the servers. There were all sorts in balls in
huge bowls.
"Certainly brownrider," she smiled at him.
"It's going between" he explained and she nodded. A moment later he
had a bowlful of melon of all types. Hopefully, one would be the
right one since there were all the colors he could imagine. He smiled
and thanked her, then tucked it into the corner of his arm. He then
mounted and put it into the carrier on Imalkyth's neck.
*Tell her we've got melon* he asked his lifemate and then they were
back in the air and on their way.
When Imalkyth landed on their weyrledge, Lanniya looked up where she
sprawled naked on a rug in the middle of their floor. A bowl of
pickles was beside her, accompanied by a large jar of sticky sweet
jam. Lanniya carefully dipped the pickle into the jam, swirled it
around and took a bite, then sighed with pleasure. The mixture of
salty and sweet was simply perfect. Looking up at the sound of
scraping claws, she rose, licking her fingers. When K'ale stepped in,
she whooped with glee, ran towards him and pressed a jam smeared mouth
to his lips. "You are perfect. I love you!" Without waiting, she
snatched the bowl, brought it to her hoard and plopped down. "Want
any?" Pointing to her stash of food.
His eyes widened at her lack of clothing and he smiled. "Tempting," he
said with a queasy feeling in the pit of his stomach at the sight of
the food selection. "But no," he said and began stripping off his
flight clothes with a smile. "I need to get some sleep before drills
tomorrow," he added and headed toward the sleeping chamber. "Enjoy
sweetheart," he said before he fell back into the bed.
She was already dipping into the bowl of melons. She paused as she
took a bite, shook her head, then took a small bowl of gravy and
poured it over the melon balls. She took another bite, then wiggled
her bottom against the rug as she took another. "Perfect. I will.
Thank you. This just hit the spot."
"Love you," he mumbled as he drifted down into the dark of sleep.
