Lafael woke abruptly. Strange thoughts whirled though his head, savage
thoughts. He blinked in the early morning of the candidate's barracks,
confused, clutching his blanket close to him before something made him
fling it off. More than a few flits were also awake and chittering
excitedly. He reached out to Reanth, who he considered one of his best
friends in a lot of ways.
}:It's Anaeryth, she Rises!:{ The tiny green seemed more excited than agitated.
"Oh," Lafael muttered out loud, still confused. He'd been in the Weyr
five months now and had seen plenty of green Flights. Yes, they were
exciting and yes, he had thought about doing things he had never
thought about doing before, but always there had been another
distraction to ground him. But this time? This time his mind was
reeling with the sweaty thoughts that were flying around in it.
He barely realized he had dressed and was all but running out of the
barracks. A sane thought that made him stop for a moment and giggle
was how he was going to explain this to his main teacher, E'naer?
Hopefully he wouldn't be angry that Lafael might not be in class this
morning. At least it wasn't G'nir teaching, that one would have for
sure been angry if he were to miss class.
A group of candidates pushed past him, running to the stairs that led
down. More than a few of them were girls. He watched them go,
realising there wasn't enough time to actually see Anaeryth and her
suitors. He held a hand to the wall of the hallway and watched through
Reanth's eyes.
}:She flies!:{ Reanth's thoughts were full of pride for her young
queen, but as Lafael watched the beautiful gold and all her brown and
bronze suitors take off after her, pride wasn't what hit his senses
full on.
No, it was much heavier thoughts and ones that didn't come from his
mind but from a part of him much lower. He reached a hand up to mop
his forehead that was strangely sweaty and half jogged down the hall
before stopping at one of the doors. Beyond that door was a
greenrider, Kapel. He knew by reaching out to her green. He also knew
that should he just open the door he'd be welcomed with open arms and
the feelings of lust that were overwhelming him would be relieved. He
raised his hand to open the door but his fingers froze inches before
the handle. She was pretty--he knew that by her green--but he didn't
want her. He didn't want any of the women greenriders, even when he
could see people around him were just as agitated. Many doors opened
and slammed shut, both men and women giggling and rushing from one
door to the next.
It was only a momentary scene before again he was the only one
standing there, mooning like a fool and wondering how he was going to
relieve himself of these feelings. There was one more door, one he
knew hadn't been opened yet. Beyond that door was a blue, Sebeth. He
knew the blue briefly from when Sebeth had made a rather profound
observation to him and Reanth a few sevendays ago. What that
observation was he couldn't remember, his mind was too confused with
other thoughts. Thoughts of men and what he wanted from a man. And
then thoughts of his near rape, thoughts of Bortem, of those few times
with the handsome son of the Sunstone Headwoman.
Confused, overwhelmed, Lafael brought his forehead against the door
with a soft thump.
K'mai had just been on his way out to find some company when he heard
a faint knock on his door. Was someone here to save him the trouble?
The bluerider smiled. But then, it was a quite soft knock, not the
eager rapping of someone looking to burn off the influence of the
queen's Rising.
Hmm.
K'mai opened the door to find a small young man looking rather
flustered and wearing Candidate's knots. "First gold flight?" Greens
could make people a little hot and bothered, especially if they stayed
close over the Weyr, but gold flights were often overwhelming for new
residents.
Lafael stepped back, both flustered and instantly in lust with the
handsome dragonrider. He was a handsome one, with his dirty blond hair
and his friendly expression. What should he say? Hello? How're you?
Who are you? Introduce himself? His mouth opened, then shut, and his
face felt hot from both need and embarrassment. A part of his brain
registered what the dragonrider had asked. "G-gold Flight?" Rather
than say yes, he nodded vigorously.
They hadn't met so K'mai wondered why the Candidate had ended up here.
"Did you mean to knock on my door or were you looking for someone
else?" Pretty as he was with those big eyes, K'mai wasn't going snatch
him up if the man was trying to find a different weyr.
Lafael opened his mouth to answer, but the overwhelming sensations he
was getting from both being around a gold Flight and also being able
to hear all the dragons drowned his sensations. Stepping forward
boldly, he planted a heavy kiss on K'mai's mouth, wrapping his arms
around the man's shoulder's.
K'mai eagerly returned the kiss, noting the Candidate had far more
enthusiasm than skill. He tugged Lafael into the weyr and closed the
door behind him. "If you want to stop at any point, just say so." He
looked at Lafael to see if he understood.
Lafael was too far gone to respond in words. Instead he puled K'mai
down to the floor with him.

They eventually made it to the bed and K'mai put his considerable
talents to use. He watched Lafael carefully as the Flight's influence
started to fade. "Are you okay?"
For a moment after the sensations of being overpowered by the mating
Flight left, Lafael felt a jolt of panic. Then he remembered. "I'm in
the Weyr now, no one can hurt me." He reached up to softly stroke
K'mai's shoulder. "Are you okay? I didn't..hurt you or anything, did
I?"
K'mai laughed. "No. You were very intense though." He tilted his head,
gaze going distant.
}:He is the one who can hear us.:{
"Sebeth says you're the one who hears dragons. So if you could hear
Anaeryth and all the males chasing her... that would explain why you
were so overwhelmed."
Lafael widened his eyes and laughed. "I thought it would be okay, you
know? Since I've so far managed to just be busy during green Flights.
Well, that and I'm usually either in candidate classes or in classes
with the Harpers. Surrounded my little ones is not a place to get
caught up in what the greens are up to." He shuddered and pulled a
face.
"Gold Flights are much more intense. You can learn to ignore them too,
if you want. Or at least not knock on a random bluerider's door if you
want to indulge the urges." K'mai was glad he seemed relaxed.
"Hey it's weyrlife, right?" Lafael shrugged his shoulders and
chuckled. "A better life than I'd ever thought life could be like a
few months ago." His smile broadened.
"I'm glad you found your way here." K'mai settled beside him, keeping
their bodies close.
"Me too." Lafael snuggled against K'mai, happy with the outcome.
