Jihan looked at himself in the mirror, checking to see that every
button was in the correct hole and his knots were laying just right.
He reached up to smooth down a few wisps sticking out from his
thinning hair when he saw the ink stains on the cuff of his writing
hand.

"Shards!" he muttered under his breath. This was already the third
shirt he had tried. "Nadreh! Nadreh, I need another shirt! Can you
help me?"

She bustled into the room, a slightly puzzled look on her face. "You
need a new shirt?" She asked, noting that he was already wearing one.
Nadreh moved over to her husband and eyed the shirt looking for rips
or tears. "What seems to be wrong with this one, dear?"

"My cuff," he said, holding up his arm as proof. "I can't go to the
Lord Holder looking like this. I need another shirt, but I can't find
one."

She reached her fingers up and brushed them at the cuff of his sleeve.
"Oh, how did you get ink all over this sleeve?," she tilted her head
sideways and looked at her husband with a questioningly look.
"You seem a bit frazzled this morning. Is this a big meeting with the
Lord Holder?" She knew he occasionally had dealings with the Lord
Holder, but not always. It was easy to tell that the man she loved was
not acting his usual self. "Let's see if I can find another clean
shirt." Nadreh moved over to the closet area and began looking for a
clean, pressed shirt.

Pulling one out, she frowned, "I'll have to press this one, just give
me a moment."

Jihan sighed, knowing there was nothing he could do to hurry that
process along, much as he would like. But what if it took too long?
He could not be late! Her husband paced the room for a moment before
remembering that she had asked him a question. "Ah, sorry, yes, today
I have a meeting with Lord Corowal."

"Oh!" Nadreh called out as she was leaving the room to hurry to get
the iron, "I hadn't realized today was the day you would meet with
him!" She used the special hot iron to press out the shirt. It didn't
take her long as she was an expert at pressing his shirts. In what was
really only a short time, Nadreh returned with the freshly pressed
shirt. "Do you have _any_ idea what it might be about?"

"It might be business. It might be about the trial. I'm not sure,"
which was what made him nervous. Jihan had thought he had done rather
well making the case for the Hold, and the Lord Holder obviously would
have agreed or else he wouldn't have found them all guilty. Than
again, with the stupid comments some of the accused made, only a moron
would have done otherwise.

Nadreh reached a hand up to his chin until she could see his face.
"You will do amazing work, no matter what the reason behind this
meeting is. I believe in you. The Lord Holder has come to trust your
work. I've listened to what you say at dinner each night. I'm sure
whatever he has to say will be good news for us." She smiled at her
husband as she held up the shirt for him to put on.

"Thank you, my love." It was always good to know that no matter what,
his wife always had confidence in him and his abilities. He began
unbuttoning his shirt. "Maybe if he liked my work, he will allow me
to represent the Hold more often. I do like the trail work."

"How could he _not_ like your work?" She replied with a playful smile.
"No matter though, you will do great today with whatever it might be.
I am sure of it!"

"It does mean longer days away from you and boys, though," he said,
pulling his shirt out from the hem of his trousers and shrugging out
of it. Jihan hated adding to Nadreh's burden as well as missing time
with Hanad and Jireh. But he took comfort in the knowledge that his
success opened more doors of opportunity for his family.

Her lips pursed a bit as she stated, "Well, I hadn't _really_ thought
of that, but in the end we would have more benefits than drawbacks if
you were offered a promotion of that sort. We'll work around all the
other things as they come. We always have," she smiled and patted his
collar as she reached up to help him button the new shirt.

"Yes," he agreed, feeling much more calm now. Sometimes all he needed
was to look down into her eyes and hear her voice to settle him.
Jihan leaned down to give her a soft, thankful kiss. "So how do I
look now?"

"You look fabulous, as always," she replied with a smile on her lips.
"You will do amazing today, no matter what the meeting is about. I
just _know_ Corowal will see in you all the amazing things I have
always seen in you." She loved Jihan with her whole heart and it was
evident not only in her words but in the love that shown through her
eyes as she gazed at him. "I will, however, be very anxious to hear
the details later tonight!"

"Don't worry, partner, I have no secrets from you," he said, her
adoring look reflected in his own eyes. "You can expect a full
report."

She leaned up on her tippy toes, her hands resting against his chest.
"Have a great day, my love." She placed a light kiss on his lips.
