"So tell me about... what you think of Dragonsfall," Harki said,
running her hand slowly across K'far's bare chest. The room was dark,
his furs warm, and she felt languid and as though her muscles had
turned to liquid beneath her skin.
"I love it more and more everyday," he murmured against her neck.
With that dratted woman being out of the picture, he could finally
relax and enjoy life. He could even enjoy other woman's company,
especially Harki's. "I'm even getting used to the winter. Keeps me
indoors more."
"Do you miss Dolphin Cove?" she asked, hoping he didn't.
"Oh no," he chuckled low down his throat. "I'm glad to be far from
there now."
"Good I-" A knocking at the door interrupted her, and Harki frowned.
"You weren't expecting company, were you?"
"No. They'll go away." At least they'd better. The greenrider next
to him felt too inviting to get up for anything short of fire or
Threadfall.
The knock sounded again, and Harki hid her head under the covers.
"You'd _better_ not have been expecting company. I don't share very
well."
"I don't plan on sharing you with _anyone_ tonight," he assured her,
frowning slightly as he glanced over his shoulder towards the living
area.
The knock came a third time, and then the doorknob rattled and an
elderly female voice called out, 'Hallooo?' Harki poked him in the
ribs. "You sure that _I'm_ not supposed to be sharing _you_?"
"What in..." K'far rolled off the bed and reached for his pants.
"Just a moment!" he called. "I'll be right there" Sharding drudge!
"She's persistent," Harki whispered. "Maybe she loooooves you!"
"Wait here, I'll be back. And then I'll get back at you for that
remark," he said with a saucy grin. "Coming!" he yelled as he pulled
a tunic over his head and strode towards the door.
The woman who waited just inside the threshold was tiny. Her hair
was white and spun fine like spinner webs, and her face was a nest of
kindly wrinkles. She wore a plain dress and was stooped as if her
hips hurt her. "You are brownrider K'far?"
"Yes, ma'am," he responded, forcing a smile. "How can I help you."
"I'm sorry to intrude, but it's rather important that I talk with
you." She smiled up at him, but she somehow looked worried. "I'm the
supervisor in the laundry. Kipli. It's a pleasure to meet you."
"Pleasure," he smiled. The brownrider made a quick mental check. He
hadn't had any laundry mix-ups that _he_ was aware of.
"One of my drudges has gone missing, K'far. Nineba?" She studied his
face for a reaction. "Perhaps you know how I can get in contact with
her?"
His smile fell slightly. "No, I don't think I do." Shards, and he
was in such a good mood.
"That surprises me, K'far, since she talked about you all the time. I
was under the impression that you two were close."
"Not exactly," the brownrider said with a shake of his head. "She
liked me but it wasn't mutual. I'm sorry, I really can't help you."
"But you brought her here from Dolphin Cove Weyr." The old woman
crossed her arms. "I can't believe that you'd take her all this way
and then abandon her."
K'far frowned. "Yeah, well, things just didn't work out. It happens
sometimes. Maybe she went back to Dolphin Cove. She has a husband
there. I suggest sending a message there. I really can't help you."
**Can't, or won't?** Kipli's question was answered as a woman with
disheveled hair wandered into the room wearing nothing save a sheet
she clutched to her breast. Her smile wasn't all together pleasant as
she wrapped a hand around the brownrider's waist. "I didn't realize
you had- a guest."
"Neither did I," the other woman said. Her short hair and lack of
common courtesy indicated that she was a dragonrider, and Kipli had
no desire to linger while she pranced around in the nude. Bathing
chambers were one thing...
"I'm sorry to have intruded. If you do hear from Nineba, please tell
her to get in touch with me. I'm very concerned," Kipli said, doing
her best to keep her eyes locked on the brownrider and not the woman
standing behind him.
"I most certainly will," K'far nodded as he wrapped his arm around
the greenrider at his side. **Right before I go off running in the
other direction screaming like a crazy man.**
"Thank you." Kipli retreated from the room and closed the door
quietly behind herself, leaving them alone again. Harki turned to
K'far and planted a kiss just below his ear. "Do you think she's
really gone missing?" she asked.
He turned to look at the greenrider. "I really couldn't say. And I
really couldn't care less, as long as she's nowhere near me right
now." The brownrider's lips turned up into an easy relaxed smile.
Why think about her when he had an appealingly naked woman right in
front of him. "Now, it seems that I am over-dressed again. Think you
could help me with that?"
Her lips curved into a smile and the sheet fell to the floor as Harki
hooked her fingers into the top of K'far's pants and began pulling
him backwards towards his bedroom. "Some men never learn when pants
aren't appropriate," she said, "but thankfully I'm good at reminding
them."
