Characters: Saranni, Corowal
Description: Saranni shares the news of her upcoming choir audition with Corowal.
Location: Emerald Falls Hold
Date: month 10, day 8 of Turn 9

-------------

Saranni spotted the Lord Holder making his way vaguely in her
direction and veered slightly so their paths would meet. She hadn't
spoken with him in a while and wanted to remedy that. She certainly
didn't want to be thought of as pushy as other girls, but she did want
to be a fresh presence in his mind. Besides that, she wanted to share
the news with him about her audition and gauge his reaction to the
information.

Corowal was returning from his training session with the guards. It
was his way of keeping fit. He was looking for a quick bath, meal and
then return to his hidework.

When they had gotten close enough for a conversation to be feasible,
she noticed how sweaty he was. It was not warm enough to be that
sweaty, so that meant he had been exerting himself. The clothing he
was wearing fit that notion as well. "Lord Holder," she dipped into a
curtsey. She hazarded a guess as to what he had been doing. He didn't
look especially dirty, so it probably wasn't helping with plowing or
construction. It looked like was coming from the practice area the
guards used, so that made some form of physical training a likely
suspect. He probably wouldn't want to talk long, which was
disappointing, but still. "Your exercise was enjoyable, I hope?"

"Lady Saranni," Corowal replied and gave her courteous half bow. Which
made him rub his side. Zandan had gotten few good punches thru, he was
going to have a spectacular bruising. "Yes, it was," he replied to her
question.

She saw the gesture and wondered what caused it. He hadn't been
walking with any difficulty that she'd seen, but obviously bending at
the waist had bothered him. The ribs? She didn't know enough about the
sorts of things that went on when men sparred. It was not an activity
that she had been encouraged or even allowed to witness between the
few guards her father employed. And, of course, the idea of her father
engaging in sparring with those men was so amusing it nearly made her
lose her composure. She hoped Corowal wasn't hurt badly, however.

"Were you injured, my Lord?"

"Bruised ribs, nothing to worry about. My captain really doesn't pull
his punches," Corowal said with a smile.

She felt pleased she had guessed correctly though she kept that to
herself, not wanting the Lord to think she was pleased he was injured.
"I hope you returned the favor?" She asked, with a returned smile.

"Oh, he was limping when he left the practise grounds," Corowal's
smile widened and his eyes twinkled with merriment. Despite their
differences in size, Corowal and Zandan tended to come out even in
their sparring. They just knew each other's fighting styles so well.
"And muttering something about kicks behind the knee being unfair and
should be outlawed."

Saranni's smile grew a bit, "I'm glad. I'm also sure you'd like to get
cleaned up, so I don't wish to hold you. I wanted to share some good
news with you my Lord, since it is partly because of you that it
occurred."

"Oh?" Corowal looked curious.

"You encouraged me to find out about the choir, and I did. Now I'm
auditioning for a position." She was exaggerating the Lord Holder's
influence in the events just a bit. She hadn't actually asked about
the choir, though perhaps she would have if the Master's own questions
hadn't led that way. But, there was no need to over-share. If Lord
Corowal thought that he had helped her in this, it might help her in
her ultimate goal.

"Really? Well, good luck for your audition," Corowal replied and gave
her a second look. So, she wasn't just the run-of-the mill young lady.
He found that interesting.

She dipped in a curtsy and replied, "Thank you my Lord," in a pleased
tone. "I admit I am a bit nervous. I know myself to be a good singer,
but auditioning for a position in the choir at the Harper Hall is a
whole other matter from entertaining one's family during dinners." And
she would likely not be the only good singer there. It was the Harper
Hall after all, there were bound to be plenty and she didn't know how
many spots were available. The competition might be stiff indeed.

"There's no reason why you can't take singing lessons now that you're
here, so near the Hall," Corowal said.

It was possible, yes. But, was it wise? She could pass off joining the
choir as a ploy to gain the Lord Holder's interest with her father,
but being a student? She would have to think about that. Figure out if
there was a way she could sell the idea to her parents when they found
out. "No reason at all," she agreed with a smile. "Well, I've held you
long enough. Thank you for taking the time to speak with me, my Lord."

"It was a pleasure, lady Saranni," Corowal replied.
