Corowal was walking along the corridor when he spotted a familiar
figure, that fostermother, Lisadi. Since the Lord Holder had no
pressing business to attend, he decided to chat with her, to catch up
how she was doing.
"Hello, Lisadi, how are you been?"
She heard her name and turned. "Good day, Lord Corowal," she replied
with a respectful nod of her head to his station. "I am doing well.
Thank you for asking. How are you doing?" She asked, knowing just how
hard it could be to move on from the loss of someone close. Time may
have passed, but while time does heal, she knew all too well that you
still carry the loss with you.
"I'm well," Corowal replied. "How are the children? I think I've seen
Dareera playing with mine?"
"Oh they are doing well. Trewlin is considering apprenticing to the
beastcrafters next turn. He is _very_ excited. Dareera. Ah, she is a
sweet girl and she happily plays with most of the others, your
children included." All in all life was going well for her and her
small family. "You know, when you asked me so many turns ago to foster
them, I wasn't sure I was the best choice. Now, I couldn't imagine my
life without them. Thank you for helping to set my life on such a
great path."
"I'm happy to oblige," Corowal gave her a playful bow. "I'm glad it
worked out. Those children needed you to get past their thraumatic
experiences."
"I needed them, too," she said with a wistful sigh. "It helped me move
on as well." She didn't want to bring up the passing of spouses in
case it would upset the Lord Holder. Felyna's passing was still so
recent compared to her own experience.
"It worked, that's all what matters," Corowal replied. He hesitated,
wondering if he should ask if she's found herself a man. She had been
Sarban's sweetheart for awhile, so it might be sensitive subject.
"That it definitely did." She smiled, a true, genuine smile. "It's
amazing how children can help you realize you don't really _need_
anything else to feel satisfied. Have you found this to be the case
for you as well?"
"Pretty much," Corowal agreed. "I do enjoy the company of my children
and try to be a good father to them. Unfortunately running this Hold
keeps me busy, so I don't get to spend as much time with them as I
want to."
"I believe it," LIsadi replied. "I'm sure it doesn't help that so many
available maids have been visiting here lately trying to vye for your
attention." It was too hard not to miss the ladies who were eager to
have a turn at being lady of the hold. It was not something Lisadi
cared for in the least."
"Oh, don't remind me," Corowal groaned. At least Lisadi seemed happy
to her current life.
She did her best to hide her chuckle. She had helped welcome quite a
few of the young (and somewhat older) ladies to the Hold over the past
few sevendays. It seems everyone was sending their available daughters
to try for a chance at being Lady Holder. She knew it had to be hard
for Lord Corowal, but the Hold needed a Lady Holder. She was curious
how things would work out in the end.
"I'm sure everything will work out one way or another," she finally said.
"I do hope so," Corowal replied. "Have a nice day," he said, ready to
move on. He had plenty of work to do.
"Have a good day, Lord Corowal," Lisadi replied.
