Danrina

Danrina

She sighed with relief as she flopped down on the sofa of her
quarters. Thankfully her mother had decided she had had enough time
with Dalvina and wished to rest up. Danrina could not have been
happier to part with her uptight mother.

Dalvina was currently trying to crawl around the floor of their
quarters while they took in the quiet time together. When Danrina
heard a knock on her doors, she rose to answer it.

When the door opened, Syis sailed into her sister's arms, nearly
toppling them both over. "Oh Danrina! What am I going to do? Father's
going to make me marry that old man!" she sobbed.

It was instinctual. Danrina wrapped her arms tighter around her sister
in an embrace that the pair had not shared in some turns. Her heart
ached for her sister and her new motherly instincts also made her want
to do anything in her power to protect her sister.

"Oh Syis," she consoled. "I'm so sorry you are having to deal with
this. Come, sit." She pulled her sister over to the sofa. Dalvina
giggled and cooed at the new arrival. She was curious. On her knees
she rocked and bounced as she tried to figure out the best way to move
towards the visitor.

"I'm not as strong as you, Dani, I can't do this... I just can't marry
some... some stranger!" Syis shuddered as she sank onto the couch with
Danrina. "Father doesn't even care that he's twenty Turns my senior,
_hairy_, and overweight."

She stroked her sister's hair to comfort her. "You should not be stuck
in this. It is _not_ fair. At least father waited until I was older.
He must have something in his sights to force this on you sooner than
he did the rest of us." She pursed her lips trying to think of how she
was going to help her sister.

"I don't know," Syis moaned. "Is there anything you can do to help me?"

Danrina mulled things over, all the while stroking her sister's hair.
Dalvina managed to wiggle her way over to them on her belly with a
giggle. In her hands was clasped a small piece of paper she had picked
up off the floor.

"Oh, Dalvina, what is that?" Danrina asked, shifting to snatch the
paper before the baby put it in her mouth. The moment she saw the old
letter that had news of Lady Felyna's death a few Turns ago an idea
sparked into her mind.

"Oh, Syis. I have an idea!" She declared, darting up and starting to
pace the room. "Will it work is the question? Will you be willing?"
She paused and looked at her sister as if the girl could read her
mind.

Syis sat up straighter, facing her sister, shoulders tense, eyes
serious, "What is it, Dani? I'll consider anything!"

She pursed her lips and looked at her younger sister. "I don't know if
it will work or not. Do you recall the news when Lady Felyna passed
at Emerald Falls Hold a bit ago? Well, I've heard that recently
more and more ladies have been heading to the Hold hoping Lord Corowal
would choose them to be the newest Lady Holder." She held up her hands
to hold off her sister's questions and kept talking. "He's old, but
that wouldn't really be our focus. We'd use the idea of you going
there to vie for his hand as a means to help you escape. Then..." she
paused, "we'd have to figure out what we do after you are there so
Father doesn't come back to get you." She looked to her sister to see
her thoughts.

Lord Corowal? Syis considered that, he was considerably older than
she, but as Danrina said, it wasn't as if she actually had to go there
and marry him. A man like Corowal, however, would be the perfect bait
to get their father to put off her engagement. Vestelem would not be
able to pass up the opportunity that one of his daughter's end up
married to a major Lord Holder. "Oh, Danrina, it's perfect!"

Danrina grinned at her sister and the plan. "We will have to figure
out the details. I'll ask Bryvin to provide an escort and a comrade
for you, since I can't really go with you. Then, we'll have to come up
with the perfect way to present the idea to father." She knew it would
take plotting and planning, but together, and with Bryvin's help, she
was sure they could come up with a plan.

"Thank you so much, Dani, thank you," Syis said, taking her sister's
hands. "I knew you would understand. Mother pretends not to know
what's going on."

"Mother pretends _alot_ of things," Danrina mumbled under her breath.
"We will find a good way to make this happen, Syis. Father will not be
able to resist the temptation. I'm sure of it." She squeezed her
sister's hand as her mind whirled with ideas.
