***
Ofewal had gotten a day off from his apprenticeship at the Harper Hall
and had been visiting his family. Inspired by his studies, the
children arranged a small talent show for their family and closest
friends.
Ofewal showed off skills he had been learning and played guitar, while
Wallia sang. The little girl had a real sweet voice.

Felcoron juggled, or at least tried to, it didn't go too well. The
card trick/sleight of hand performance he had learned from Corowal
however, was a success.

Corolia danced and recited a poem. She had a good voice, but was
unfortunately she was tone-deaf, so she didn't want to sing.

The babies didn't perform, although Collyn had a cry-spell and his
milkmother had to take him away.

Beleran impressed them all by reciting the entire alphabet both
forwards and backwards, though with several starts and stops during
the latter. Still, everyone gave him a resounding cheer that he
answered with a bow every bit as practiced and elegant as Corowal's
children's.

"Well done, Beleran," Corowal said approvingly and reached out to
ruffle the boy's hair without thinking it. It was the kind of
affectionate gesture he often showed to his own children. Corolia
always complained he was messing up her hair. "It shows you've paid
attention during your harper classes, unlike someone else," he glanced
at Felcoron. Only in last sevenday he had gotten note from the teacher
that Felcoron had sleept during the class.

Erassa smiled warmly at the pair as Beleran leaned into the Lord
Holder's leg, enjoying the attention. His mother was pleased too.
The little boy had never known his own father, and never will as he
had died in Threadfall. Corowal's kindness to her "bastard" son never
ceased to make the foster mother's heart beat a little faster. It was
everything she had ever hoped for her son, and the Lord Holder was
under no obligation to give it to him.

It had never occurred to Corowal for not show affection towards
Beleran. The boy was growing up with his children and should be
treated equally.

Once the show was over, they had supper at the dining hall. The staff
had put out a more festive meal than normally, serving from the better
china.

Erassa sat towards the end of the table as a member of the Lord
Holder's staff and not a true member of the family. She felt more
comfortable there. Giving fodder to the gossips was never a good idea
in her mind. But she stole glances down towards Corowal, watching him
interact with his children and her son, who sat amongst them like one
of their own. She loved watching him with his children. The love he
had for them was genuine and deep, and it showed in the way he treated
each of them. Shards but he was at his most handsome when he had a
child's full attention, she thought with a slight blush, looking back
down at the food on her plate.

They all had great time and eventually it had to end. Ofewal needed to
get back to the Harper Hall before lights-out.
After such evening, it took awhile to get the children into bed.
Once that was done and Corowal had said his good nights for them, he
just stood there and debated with himself if he should take a drink or
not.

It took Erassa longer than usual to get the children down to sleep,
but finally they had each drifted off. "What a day," she sighed as
she softly closed the door behind her, but her smile was happy as she
looked at the Lord Holder.

"Yes," Corowal smiled. "The children wanted to do this again next
sevenday. I told them that if we do this too often, it will lose it's
charm and stops being special." His eyes sparkled with happiness.

"It would be nice to have Ofewal home more often. And Corofel," she
added wistfully. Shards, he was turning into a man. It made her
heart ache that she was missing it, even though she was not related to
him by blood. All of Corowal's children were like her own, even
though, truth be told, his eldest was only 8 turns her junior.

"Yes," Corowal agreed. "Eventually, I'm going to call Corofel back
home," he continued. "I've kind been hoping he would find some nice
girl from Amber Hills Hold," he gave her a little smirk. "If he takes
after me, better get him safely married at young age."

"Oh Corowal, sixteen is too young. He's still got a lot to learn. I certainly
do _not_ hope for rash, immature decisions in his future. That's how I
ended up here," she said with a deep sigh. Besides, she wanted to
believe that Corofel had not inherited that particular trait of his
father's. She wanted to be proud of the man he grew up to be. Maybe
she should have a talk with him. Explain a bit about things from a
woman's perspective.

"You should have seen me at that age," Corowal murmured with
self-irony. "Okay, I was seventeen when I discovered girls."

"Yes, well, I was 'discovered' at seventeen, too," Erassa said with a
roll of her eyes. "I would much prefer Corofel respected women than
merely discovered them. But I guess that is just a woman's point of
view. We're just the ones who have to live with the hurt."

"True," Corowal replied and flinched guiltily. "Let's hope for the best."
He decided not to take a drink and moved to look out of the window.
"It's too beautiful a night to start an argument."

"You're right, I'm sorry." She walked over to his side to look out
over the Hold with him. "We shouldn't fight after the children made
such a wonderful family day for us."
