Danrina

Danrina had a mission. She made her way to Devren's shop. She had
taken to visiting his shop more often since Dalvina had been born.
She'd never really been interested in the sewing skills her mother had
insisted she learn so she could be a proper lady. However, having a
daughter she found she had more interest in making things for her than
she ever thought she would.

As she entered the shop, she greeted the man she had come to know
during her frequent visits.

"Good day, Devren. How are you this fine day?" She inquired.

"I'm doing well, thanks for asking," the merchant said with a wide
grin. "How is your little Dalvina doing? Growing bigger by the day,
I'm sure."

Danrina smiled, "Oh yes. She's getting so big. I can't believe how
fast she is growing. In fact that's why I'm here. I want to make her a
little dress myself. Sophque has been helping me improve my sewing
skills. We are going to try making her a new dress and, I haven't told
Sophque this part yet, I want to make her a soft doll. I'm not really
sure what I'd need to do that." Danrina had been enjoying improving
her basic level sewing skills. She felt pride knowing she was able to
make something herself for her daughter.

Devren's smile deepened as they talked about Sophque. Talk of her
always made his day brighter. "Well, I know man women make dolls from
the scraps of material they have on hand. If you want something a bit
softer, though, I can pull out some felt samples for you to look at."

"Oh that would be lovely. Something soft. And I am supposed to get
some more dress material for Dalvina, so Sophque can show me again how
to make her a dress. My last attempt looked more like a sack than a
dress. What do you have that is not too costly, since I'm not sure my
attempts will be much better this time." Danrina snorted at her memory
of her first dress lesson. It did _not_ go well. Yet, she was
determined to learn. Her mother had taught her basic needle and thread
skills, but not making a garment from scratch that actually looked
decent.

"A simple white linen should do," he said, walking over to a bolt on
the wall. "It has no extra dyes or patterns to increase the price,
and it's light and breathes well in the humidity. If you like what
you make, I know Sophque is very skilled with embroidery and can show
you how to decorate it how you like. And there's also the possibility
that you can get a weaver to dye it a nice shade once it's done."

Danrina paused, her lips pursed in thought. It seemed so plain, but
yet, it was such a waste to buy something more expensive knowing her
skills were still so minimal.

"Do you have anything similar with a hint of color already? If the
dress turns out, I'd love for Dalvina to be able to wear it right
away." She eyes the white linen again, knowing it was probably the
best choice, but still wanting something just a bit _more_ and less
plain.

"Several," he said walking over to a long line of died linens. "As
you can see we have some soft pinks and purples, blues and green,
yellows and oranges," Devren said as he walked down the rows of bolts.
"The price depends on the dying process of course."

They all looked lovely. Danrina reached her hand out and fingered some
of the cloth before her.

"Which of these lovely colors is the least expensive for my first real
practice gown? I'll take whichever is the most reasonable. Oh, and I
want to look at the felt you mentioned earlier too for Danrina's
doll."

"How about this one?" He pulled out a bolt of soft leafy green linen.
"I got a good deal on this."

She reached out to touch the fabric. "That is perfect. Thank you
Devren. I will take that one."

"Good then," he said with a large smile. "Would you like to pay in
marks, credit, or barter today?"

"I have the marks with me to pay," she patted a small pouch she was
holding. There were definite benefits to being so close to Bryvin. He
made sure she always had what she needed or wanted, no questions
asked.

"All right, well, I will just put this on the counter and show you
where the felt is then," he said, lifting out the bolt for her and
indicating the corner were the material for her daughter's doll might
be found.

"Thank you," she replied, eager to begin her new projects.
