What Do You Do After Classes?

Description: Lisadi makes arrangments with Westyn's children after classes.
Location: Emerald Falls Hold
Date: month 9, day 5 of Turn 9

She was waiting outside the classrooms for the children to be
dismissed. Trewlin and Dareera would enjoy the company of Wesyn's
children. Hopefully the arrangement would assist the trader and his
family. She knew they had gone through many nannies, but Lisadi did
not doubt her own abilities. She had raised both Dareera and Trewlin
after they had lost their families. They had had good days and bad
days, and they still did. Their little family was happy, and she was
proud of both of the children.

The sound of the classrooms opening and footsteps entering the hall
let Lisadi know that it was time to begin this new venture.

She saw Dareera first. The girl headed straight in her direction,
motioning for her friend to follow.

Welsa was only a little bit shy. She hadn't been when her father had
been present, but now without him she felt a little hesitant. She
followed Dareera, glad at least that she would be spending more time
with her friend. And hadn't Dareera's mom mentioned something about
making a skirt? **A pretty yellow skirt!** she remembered.

"Why do I have to go? I'm not some baby that needs watching," Gaesyn
was grumbling to Gesylle as the two older kids walked down the hall
together. Gesylle honestly didn't mind, as long as the woman didn't
try and make her do silly baby things.

Trewlin bounded down the corridor with an excited grin. His lessons
had gone well and he was proud to show his mom the project they were
starting. He pulled up to an almost halt when he saw Gaesyn and
Gesylle. He remembered that the older children would be joining them
now after classes and he didn't want to look foolish in front of them.
Slowing down his pace, he walked a few steps behind them.

"Ah, there you all are," Lisadi remarked as they all came out of the
classroom hallway. She flashed a smile towards Wesla, who was close on
the heels of Dareera. Then did the same for the older children. She
noticed Trewlin seemed a bit reserved, and made a mental note to find
out why later on.

Once they were all gathered, she said, "So, tell me what your usual
after class afternoons look like?" She looked to Westyn's children to
hear a bit more about their normal routine.

"I usually go down to the stables," Gaesyn said matter-of-factly,
which wasn't entirely untrue. He did go down there often, sometimes to
watch the beastcrafters break runners, or to shoot marbles with his
pals, or sometimes throw knives.

"I take Wesla back to our rooms," Gesylle answered.

"Yeah, sometimes we play with dolls, or play dress up with the things
my Papa has brought us!" Wesla chimed in.

"Well," she looked to Gaesyn. "The stables are just fine, as Trewlin
goes there most days as well. Do you usually assist the crafters as
Trewlin does?" She looked between the boys and caught the sight of
Trewlin shaking his head no. Still she waited to hear Gaesyn's answer
before proposing her own.

Next, she turned to the girls, "Well, Wesla and Dareera already were
planning on some sewing this afternoon. Would you like to join us
Gesylle or did you have something else in mind? Or," here she paused
and looked at all three girls, "we could save the sewing for tomorrow
and all go back to your quarters or ours if you'd prefer."

"Help the crafters?" Gaesyn said the question as if it were ludicris.
"No, we normally just watch them work with the runners in the corral
or shoot marbles, or something."

"Oh! Can we go back to our quarters? I've got a new doll house that we
can play with!" Wesla said, brimming with excitement.

Gesylle held up a book, "I was just going to read."

She turned to the girls first, "If you _really_ prefer going to your
quarters this afternoon, we can do that today. We can always sew the
skirts tomorrow. But first, let me speak with the boys a moment."

"Hmm," she mused at Gaesyn's words. "How old are you again, Gaesyn? I
know you are older than Trewlin. I'm curious what your plans are for
the future? You are old enough to be an apprentice or do you have
other plans?" She peered at the boy with a look of both curiosity and
adult expectation. She knew he may not like her probes, but she had
agreed to help Westyn and part of that help was not allowing his
growing soon to waste away his time when there were futures to plan.

"Fifteen," Gaesyn said, automatically defensive with the line of
questioning. "I'm going to be a trader like my dad. That's what my
family does," he said it as if that was incredibly obvious.

Gesylle looked down, suddenly very intersted in her shoes.

Lisadi decided it might be time to let things with Gaesyn slide for
this first afternoon. She would discuss with Westyn when he picked up
the children how she could help in this matter.

"That's a good field to be in Gaesyn. Your father has done well. I'm
sure he appreciates your help when he needs it. You and Trewlin can
head to the stables then. His chores usually take him about a
candlemark or two. I'm sure he'd enjoy a helping hand if you feel so
inclined. When he is done, will you please return to your rooms as I'm
sure your father will be back by then?" She didn't press any further
on his choice of activities. Trewlin turned to head towards the
stables, not sure if the older boy would follow and not really caring
if he did. He wanted to get to work. The sooner he finished, the
sooner the crafters usually let him help with other small tasks with
the runners.

"Girls, are you ready to go play dolls then?" She turned to Dareera,
Gesylle ,and Wesla. "Ready? Can you girls lead the way?"

Wesla grabbed Lisadi's hand immediately, "This way!"
