L'cor smiled as they touched down in the square in front of Emerald
Falls. He had a surprise for his daughter tucked into his jacket and
was sure Coria was going to love it. Of course, he had a box of sweets
for all of the other children to share, brothers and sisters by Lord
Corowal.
"Just a quick visit," he said to the guard who came forward. "No need
for fanfare." He trotted up the steps and into the main hold
The children's delighted "dragon, dragon!" cries alerted Corowal and
he came out of his office.
"My Lord," L'cor smiled and bowed then stepped closer to his father
for a hug. "I came for a quick visit with you and Coria."
"You're always welcome here," Corowal replied and gave him hearty hug
and pound on the back. "I'm sure Erassa will bring her in a moment."
It took the fostermother a bit to wrangle both Coria and Collyn.
Thankfully Beleran and Wallia were in their pre-Harper classes for the
morning, otherwise it would have taken her twice as long to gather the
children together. Finally she emerged from the Lord Holder's rooms
with a child on each hip.
See her and her struggle, Corowal went meet her. "Give him to me," he
reached out to take Collyn. The baby gave hm a toothless smile.
A smile not quite as bright lit up Coria's face and L'cor couldn't
help but smile back. "Hello there sweetheart," he said and scooped her
from Erassa's arms. "Thank you," he said with heartfelt sincerity to
the foster mother with a slight nod of his head. Then his hand dove
into his jacket pocket and pulled out a little-stuffed dragon for her
"Everything alright in Dolphin Cove?" Corowal asked.
"It's good," L'cor nodded with a smile. "Oria's busy today or she'd
have come with me."
Coria burbled at him and shook the little dragon promptly putting it
in her mouth as all small children do. Then she held it out to Erassa
with what almost sounded like a question.
Erassa stepped closer to lay a hand on the young girls back. "Yes,
dear," she said softly so as not to break too much into the
conversation, "it's green, isn't it. It's a pretty green dragon."
The foster mother smiled encouragingly at her. It wouldn't be long
before the little one would be talking up a storm.
In Corowal's arms, Collyn was also starting to reach out for the
bright coloured toy. "It's hers," Corowal told him when the baby
started to make demanding noises. "You have your own toys. Where did
you leave your puppy?" The puppy was brown, stuffed canine that was
already starting to get shabby and chewed. Collyn looked out and then
his face wrinkled to a beginnings of a bawl.
L'cor reached into his bag and brought out a fruit roll the headwoman
had provided and held it out to Collyn. "How about this little
brother," he smiled.
His foster mother's maternal senses were honed and she quickly reached
out for the offered roll. "Why don't I hold onto that, L'cor," she
said sweetly, reaching for the offered food that was way to big for
Collyn's nine-month old mouth to handle as yet. "I can break it up
into small bites for him. I'm sure he'll love it."
"Oh I'm sorry," he hadn't realized the problems for the young boy.
"Thank you," he smiled warmly at the foster mother. "I appreciate all
you do here."
"We all do, don't we Collyn?" Corowal said. The baby was happily
munching the small bites Erassa fed him.
Erassa blushed as she tore off another small bite. "Yes, well... Are
you staying for lunch then, L'cor?"
"I would love to," he smiled. "I did bring these for the others," he
said and pulled out a box of sweets. "But you might want to control
them," he added holding it toward Erassa. "Make sure you get some as
well."
"I can take care of that, thank you," Corolia said sweetly and managed
to snatch the box before anyone else reacted.
"Hey, now no one else gets them!" Felcoron cried.
With his arms full of his daughter he didn't have a good enough grip
before she snatched the box but he just laughed. "Be sure to share
Corolia," he called, "or you won't get _any_ the next time I visit."
"He's right, you know," Corowal told his daughter.
"Why don't we move to some more comfortable location," he suggested
and asked drudge to bring them refreshments to the children's
playroom. There was always one or two drudges waiting around the Lord
Holder's quarters just for this kind of things.
L'cor flirted with his daughter and told her how happy he was to see
her while they all headed toward the playroom. Once there he folded
his long legs and sat on the floor near where he thought were the toys
she would like to play with. "What's this," he asked as he picked up a
block and handed it to her. She put down her new toy in favor of the
block and gabbled something at him. He looked to Erassa for a
translation.
Erassa shook her head with an amused smile. "She's just talking at
you. Only she knows exactly what she means. But she's happy that
you're playing with her."
"Alright then Coria," L'cor smiled. "Mama made me promise to tell you
she loves you."
"I hope mama gets to come next time," Corowal said and ushered them to
take seats while the drudge brought them klah.
"Me too," L'cor smiled at his father. He might not have been raised as
a Lord Holder's son but he'd been provided for and loved. Let alone
the offer that had been made for his daughter to be raised as a Lady
of the Blood. For that and everything else, he would always be
grateful to the Lord of Emerald Falls.
