Location: River Bluff Weyr
Date: month 11, day 1 of Turn 3

Branalie was far more composed when U'das arrived at her office the second time, though her terrible taste in clothing hadn't changed. She met him with a smile and waved him inside, pointing at the chair. "Sit down, I have glasses for you to try."

"And Hello to you too, Branalie," U'das greeted with a teasing smile. "It is customary to greet first." Turning with the glasses in her hand, Branalie nodded at him. "We'll have plenty of time for greetings once I've fixed your eyesight problems," she said confidently, moving toward him. "Here, try these on."

U'das took the eyeglasses with resigned sigh. So much of his stalling - tactics. Branalie watched as he slid the glasses on and then waited impatiently for him to say something. "Well? Can you see?"

"Yes, but these don't exactly stay on," U'das answered when the glasses slipped down from his nose. "Well, I can fix that..." A pouch hanging from her belt was revealed to hold several tools, and she leaned down until her nose was level with U'das and pushed the glasses back up. "The smith makes the frames light enough that I can bend them into shape if I have to, though that means you have to be careful not to bend them back out of shape!"

"If that happens, what should I do? Bring them to you to be fixed?" U'das asked. "Mmmhmmm." She fiddled with the metal that rested over his nose for a moment before pulling the glasses off and bending it. Then she slipped them back on. "Better?"

"From the nose part, but now it squeezes behind my ears," U'das complained. Branalie nodded and slid her fingers back to feel the shape of the frame behind his ears. "Okay, I can loosen that a bit."

"Okay," U'das grinned. She was quite close to him. He was awfully tempted to kiss her, just because she was so close. Pulling back, she took the glasses and spent a few more minutes fiddling with them, nibbling on her lower lip thoughtfully as she did the work she'd spent so many turns perfecting. Finally she slid the glasses back on for him. "Better?" she asked again. "A bit, but now this part...I don't what's it called..." he took off the glasses and pointed the little piece that rested against the sides of his nose, "...sort of digs into my nose's side." "Hmmm..." After another round of adjustments, she stood back, studying U'das to make sure the glasses were straight. "I think they look handsome."

"You're sure? They don't spoil my roguish charm?" The bronzerider asked, soundling rather uncertain. Branalie laughed. "I don't think so, but I don't know if I'm the one to ask. I've always thought glasses make a man look distinguished. Can you see all right?"

"Yes, I think so. You should give me something to read to really see if I can see," U'das said, chuckling at this own pun. Rolling her eyes, Branalie moved out of his line of sight and pointed up at the wall. "Remember my chart? How does it look now?"

U'das studied the chart. He was deligheted to noticed that he could all lines without straining his eyes. "Clear all the way to the bottom." "Excellent!" Branalie moved back to him and studied the glasses for a few more moments with a slight frown, trying to see if there were any more adjustments that should be made. "How about the fit? Are they comfortable enough now?"

"Not really, but I can't pinpoint any particular spot. Maybe it's just that I'm not used to them," U'das answered hesitantly. "Hmmm..." Branalie ran her fingers along the frames again, trying to decide if they were pressing too tightly against his temples. "It could be that. Give it a few days, but if you start getting headaches again, come back and I can adjust them again."

"All right. I give them try." "You'd better," she replied with a smile, stepping back. "I'd better not hear that you're not wearing them, either! I'll want to see you for checkups from time to time to make sure we don't need to change your lenses."

"All right, I'll be a good boy. These are just for the reading and hidework, right?" Branalie nodded. "If you start having problems with seeing at other times, of course, you need to come and see me."

"Of course. You're obviously the person to consult with eye problems," U'das flashed a smile at her. "I certainly hope so," she replied with a smile in return. "My husband and I spent twenty something turns trying to make glasses better."

"Twenty turns? You have to be good then." Branalie snorted. "Or just old! You can decide for yourself if I'm good after you have a chance to try your glasses out."

"I'll let you know how is it," U'das said. "Good. Now get along with you," she said, waving him off the stool and towards the door. "I have work to do that can't be done with bronzeriders underfoot! Have a good day, U'das."

"Good day to you too, journeywoman." U'das left her office. As soo as he was outside, he took of the glasses and put them into his pocket. He was not going to walk around in public wearing them!
