Benna had been expecting it to happen for days now, but somehow it was
still a surprise when Henerath woke from a nap on her weyr ledge and a
wave of lust and aggression passed through the greenrider. She nearly
dropped the lunch tray she'd just gotten. She turned and handed her
lunch off to the first person she saw, giving them a distracted smile
before heading out of the dining cavern, her mind echoing with her
dragon's challenge to her would-be suiters.

Jayth had been about to take R'axe out of the Weyr for a trip to a warm
beach when he felt Henerath's lusty draw. The blue quickly circled back
down to the ground.

}:Get off, get off. I'm going to catch her.:{ the blue insisted,
impatiently shifting from side to side as R'axe leaped off and quickly
ripped off the riding straps.

"Class dismissed!" D'kere called to the Weyrlings he was working with,
since Kenirath had declared his intentions to catch the rising green.

L'keri was in the middle of lunch with some wingmates when he felt a
familiar surge of desire from his lifemate. He caught glimpses of the
green dragon through Rhalith's eyes as he glided down from their weyr.
Excusing himself from his friends, he hurried outside. **Who is it?**

}:Henerath,:{ the brown replied. He landed nearby and crouched, intent
on the green as he waited for the moment when she would spring into the
air. His rider grinned as he joined the other riders, recognising the
name, and wished Rhalith luck in the chase.

A Flight was an excellent reason to get out of watch duty, J'nev
thought when Ankioth declared his intention to chase. Gliding down
towards the circle of waiting chasers, his rider tried to place the
green. As they grew closer, he could feel a shot of excitement in his
veins as he recognized her rider. **Benna.**

}:She is so beautiful, and we flew well together,:{ Ankioth rumbled as
J'nev slipped off his back. }:I will earn her again!:{

**I was just thinking the same thing,** his rider mused as he walked
towards the waiting circle.

Benna stood amongst the men, not really seeing them, but aware they
were there. She was much more mindful of the dragons chasing Henerath.
Blues and browns and bronzes, a good sized fair of chasers and the
green dragon bugled her approval. }:Chase me! Catch me! If you think
you can!:{

She would not make it easy, oh no. She wanted the best. The bronzes
were so slow in the air, but strong. Same with the browns. The blues
were almost as agile, but still not as as fast. She was Henerath and
she was the fastest thing in the air! With another bugle of challenge,
she began weaving and banking, leading her suitors on a merry chase
while below, Benna swayed, soaring with her and exulting in their
flight.

She was fiesty and Jayth couldn't wait to twine necks with her. The
blue followed as closely as the green's speed would allow, brushing
past a brown who wasn't as agile. R'axe took a step closer to Benna,
mirroring Jayth's proximity to Henerath.

Kenirath wasn't bothered by the blues who were flying close to
Henerath's tail. The bronze, one of the largest in the Weyr, watched
the green carefully, looking for an opportunity to catch her when she
least expected it.

Falzeth ranged with the other blues watching for an opening. He was a
canny and experienced blue with many catches to his credit. He knew
most tricks and was in his prime. She was very fast but young and he
was almost as fast and patient. He watched for his opening.

Galerith arrived late and almost missed her Flight. They had been
flying sweeps and arrived back to the Weyr just as she launched. As
soon as Sh'lua had dismounted, the blue shot after the green. Still
wearing his riding straps, now tangling empty from his back.
"Well, aren't we in a hurry, you horny blue," Sh'lua murmured and
started to jog where the other chasers were waiting the Flight's
outcome. He didn't expect them to have much success this time,
Galerith was tired from the sweeps and straps were going to slow him
down. **There's green rising almost every day, why do you have to get
this one?** he did not receive any answer from him.

As a bronze, Ankioth had not been one of the faster chasers right out
of the gate, but he was quickly gaining on them as his larger wings
beat the air hard. He was no longer new to the chase, and watched his
competitors with one careful eye, looking for any advantage he could
get on them, while the other was trained on the green. One dive in
his direction and he would be ready to intercept her.

Henerath caught an updraft and abruptly rose in the air, her speed
slowed just a bit and a few of the males actually passed by under her,
overshooting and missing her course change. Amusement colored her
passion at the sight and she taunted }:You'll have to be quicker than
that!:{

Falzeth twisted with the sudden change in direction but he'd been
watching for that move and his reaction was instant. }:I am,:{ he
cried triumphantly when he grabbed her and held her fast twining necks
as they fell from the sky.

D'arvn just as triumphant swept the rider into his arms and stumbled
into the nearest flight room with his prize.

Benna barely felt the arms drawing her into the room and directing her
to the waiting bed, she was still with her dragon and the green's
passions were her own. When she whispered, "Clever boy" into the mouth
kissing hers, it was as much Henerath's thought as her own.

Sh'lua was not surprised when disappointed Galerith returned to Weyr
empty clawed. This time the rider was luckier, Sh'lua picked himself a
flight month to burn off the dragon lust.

J'nev felt a stab of disappointment at not being chosen a second time,
but it was quickly soothed by one of the flight moths eager to take
the young bronzerider back to her weyr. The day was not completely
lost after all!
