K'reyel turned the matter over again in his mind as he made his way to the
Weyrwoman's office. Z'dan was a normally solid, steady bluerider. The kind
that the harpers would have you believe were the salt of the earth and the
backbone of the weyr. Loyal, reliable, those were all words that appeared
regularly on his evaluation, until now. The last noisy fight with his now
ex weyrmate had seen to that. And now, there was a personnel matter to sort
out.

"Got a few minutes?" he called out as he approached what seemed to be a
slightly open office door. "I'd like to run something past you."

Saibra leaned back in her chair as the Weyrleader entered and gestured
toward the empty chair across the room, "I'm all ears."

"Z'dan, he asked for a transfer, but I don't want to lose him," K'reyel said
as he took the chair. "His weyrmate, I think she's a healer, she left him
for another woman. They had a nasty fight in the dining cavern last night,
and then she informed him that it was true, she was pregnant, she was
keeping the baby and raising it with this other woman. I only have those
details second hand though."

The Weyrwoman's ebony eyebrows raised marginally, "Shells, I'm sorry I
missed that in the cavern last night." Saibra ran a hand over her expanding
abdomen, "So why does Z'dan want to transfer? Is the woman leaving with her
new lover, or is he trying to avoid her here?"

"I think he just wants to avoid her for now, he's almost certain that the
child is his, and apparently he was yelling about his right to be a father,
and how she couldn't and shouldn't take that away from him." K'reyel paused
for a moment. "I was thinking if your wing needed a bluerider, I could give
him an internal transfer, then speak to the healers and see if they'd change
her shifts about to minimise contact. I want to give them all a chance to
cool down before someone does something they regret."

Saibra nodded in understanding. She thought it was kind of K'reyel to come
up with such a solution, to care enough about the personal life of a
wingrider to try and help the bluerider. "We can certainly take him."

"Good," K'reyel said, letting out a breath he hadn't really realised he was
holding. "He's a potential wingthird in a turn or so, and I'd hate to lose
that potential. To be honest, I'd have been trying to find a way transfer
him internally anyway, to get a second opinion on that."

"I'll share that with Teseada then so she can keep an eye on him as well.
Faranth knows a good wingthird is hard to come by."

"Exactly, I think he has a chance to work things out here, and it'll make
him a better, more understanding leader when the time comes."

"How are the River Bluff implants working out in your Wing?" she asked.

"Getting there, I think it has helped that it was my home once," K'reyel
said. "Although I didn't leave in the same circumstances."

Saibra couldn't imagine having to live through what the River Bluff riders
had. Her thoughts strayed momentarily to Lenala and how she had died. Saibra
liked to think that she had enough willpower to force Chioneth to leave a
clutch if the Hatching Cavern was falling about them. It might seem callous
to some, but in Saibra's opinion, golds didn't come along often enough to
lose one over one clutch. There could always be more clutches, but only if
the gold survived.

"How is your father doing at Dolphin Cove?"

"He seems to be settling in well from what I've heard. The weyrlings and
staff appreciate him, and it's time he spent some time with his other
grandchildren. Although Mayel keeps asking when we can go see him."

Saibra smiled picturing the Weyrleader's son and his sweet face. These days,
being pregnant again, Saibra found herself really noticing more of the
children around Dragonsfall. "Perhaps Mayel could go to the next hatching at
Dolphin Cove? He would get to see her grandpa in action."

"He'd like that, I'm sure Mai would appreciate the chance to get out as
well."

"Has she adjusted to the cold here?" she asked.

"Well it did get cold at Dream's end, but it's been turns since we lived
there." K'reyel thought back to that time. "But it was Mayel we did worry
about first, he'd never seen snow before."

Saibra remembered the first time she'd seen snow. "Did he like it?"

"He said he thought it was something from a harper story and couldn't
believe it was real." K'reyel grinned. "Then he jumped in it."

}:You have an appointment with that healer woman,:{ Chioneth interrupted.

"Well, I'm glad he likes it. I apologize, K'reyel, I have an appointment to
make." Saibra said, pushing to her feet.

"You go, I'll get the paperwork over to you as soon as possible for the
transfer."
