K'yne

Even though K'yne had known when he'd accepted the position that R'enh
would become his Wingleader, it still didn't stop him from dreading
his first meeting with the man. It's not as if they both weren't aware
of K'yne's unrequited feelings for Saibra, even though the brownrider
would never act on them. Neither his honor, nor Saibra, would allow
him to do so. And then there were the feelings that had resurfaced
after he'd found out that he'd fathered a son with Ocktima, another
unrequited love. K'yne was beginning to think that being alone was
just his lot in life.

"Good morning," K'yne greeted R'enh with a nod of his head as he had a
seat in the man's office. It was time for them to review the Wing
together and establish what their work relationship would entail.

"Good morning," R'enh nodded back. Knowing the man's history with both
Saibra and her children he couldn't help but admire a man who would
step into his brothers shoes and become the father figure the children
needed despite his feelings for their mother, or her lack of them for
him. He could see the wary way he come into the room and wanted to set
him at ease, at least in part. R'enh himself was a rather laid back
and non jealous sort, let alone the security he felt in his
relationship. "I thought we could begin by reviewing Torrent's current
formations."

"Absolutely," K'yne agreed. "I've only been with them for a few 'falls
now, so I'm still familiarizing myself with their different
formations." The brownrider was relieved to get straight to Wing talk.

R'enh slid the hides then leaned toward the brownrider. "Some of these
are pretty basic and standard. But there are a few," he pointed at one
in particular. "This one looks to be framed for high-wind conditions."

K'yne looked over the formation and then tapped the paper, "We've
flown this one since I've been in the Wing. The gusts you get here at
Dragonsfall can be tricky, especially when they're pulling snow off
the mountains."

R'enh nodded. "I can see that. But what about fatigue in the greens and blues? "

"In my opinion, from what I've seen the couple of times we've flown
it, the greens and blues look like they're flagging pretty badly
before the switch." K'yne said honestly.

"Any thoughts on how we could manage that? Fatigued greens especially
make for missed Thread."

"They could head back to the Weyr earlier, but that would require the
males to take on double coverage until the next wave comes in." K'yne
reasoned, although he wasn't sure if he liked that option either.

R'enh shook his head slightly. "I think I'd rather run each section a
little short and make it three shifts instead of two for the greens
and smaller blues. We'd have a huge uptick in injuries should we try
to make the males take the full fall for even half a candlemark."

K'yne's eyebrows lifted a little as he considered the plan. "Makes
sense, really. Those greens and smaller blues that have healers or
dragonhealers for riders could go out in the first transition and
provide more support for the ground."

"That is a very good thought," R'enh nodded. "Let's map it out and set
up drills for the revised formations."

"Sounds good," the brownrider nodded. "Any thoughts about how we're
going to ferret out a wingthird?"

"Just going to have to keep our eyes open. Do you have any
suggestions?" K'yne had been in place at Dragonsfall longer than he
had and would have a greater breadth of experience. "I'm willing to
look at any color."

"There's a few I would recommend, although I'm not sure they'd be
interested in the position. Tavia, a greenrider, and Zh'no, a
bluerider in the Queen's Wing, both experienced flyers. Kenza, a
greenrider in Cyan, she has prior Wingthird experience. That's my
short list, I'm afraid I don't know enough of the River Bluff riders
yet to know which might be a good fit."

"I think I'd like to talk to them. Then we can see who might be a good
fit. I do know Tavia though." His eyes rolled up for a moment. "I
think I've won one of her flights in the past at Dolphin Cove. Healer
right?" He thought then lifted a finger. "What about that very tall
rider from River Bluff. I think she's in Saibra's wing at the moment.
We should probably talk to her as well."

"And I'll let you deal with Saibra over poaching her wingriders." The
corners of K'yne's mouth twitched upwards.

"All's fair in love and ... wingleadership," R'enh grinned.
