Description: R'sedel tries to make a new friend, and Zh'no tries not to...
Location: Dragonsfall Weyr
Date: month 2, day 6 of Turn 9
Zh'no stood in front of a long mirror, feet shoulder width apart and
shoulders back. He stared into his own dark eyes for a long moment
before before sucking in a long breath through his nose. He held it
for a moment before releasing through a long steady stream of air out
his mouth. Pausing for just the briefest moment, he repeated the
process once more. The third time as he inhaled, he slowly raised the
weighted bells in his hands, elbows tucked tight against his body. He
tied the ascent to his inhaled breath, held them along with the air in
his lungs, and lowered them on the exhale. **One.**
Zh'no's eyes weren't the only ones watching him carefully make reps,
from across the room R'sedel was also watching the bluerider. R'sedel
tossed down the free weight he had been working with and sauntered
over to the other man.
"Why hello there, I don't think we've had the pleasure of meeting. I'm
R'sedel." The best thing to come out of his forced move to Dragonsfall
was all of the good looking men he'd met so far.
**Four.** Zh'no's eyes flickered over briefly to the greenrider,
pausing ever so slightly to frown before inhaling again though his
nose, lifting the weight and finishing the rep. "Five," he said
outloud for R'sedel's benefit, assuming he'd take the hint as his eyes
fixed again on the reflection in the mirror.
R'sedel wasn't at all put out by the lack of response, instead he
crossed his arms over his chest, eyes sweeping over the shirtless
bluerider's torso, and leaned his shoulder against the wall holding
the mirror. "By all means continue, I'll wait," he smiled.
That had been what Zh'no had been afraid of. His weight training time
was usually _his_ time. The intense concentration he liked to put
into each movement, consciously feeling each fiber of muscle as it
moved, it was almost meditative. It cleared his mind and left him
refreshed. Interruptions were not welcome. But he also did not wish
to be rude and so when he finished his tenth rep and took time to take
a couple more deep breaths just to center himself, he bent his knees
until the bells touched the floor in a slow, long practiced movement.
With fluidity and grace, he stood once more to his full height and
looked at the greenrider. "Zh'no, rider of blue Peohth."
"Well met. From the looks of things you do this often?" R'sedel was in
the work out room often enough, although he only lifted to maintain
and was more interested in cardio.
"I do," Zh'no nodded, already itching to get back to his workout. Why
did people seem to think that in the work out room was the best place
to strike up a conversation? If they wanted companionship so bad,
team sports were a much better way to go.
**The quiet type!** R'sedel thought to himself with inner glee. He
liked the quiet types because they were a challenge and R'sedel had
never walked away from a challenge. "Do you do circuits or just your
own routine?"
Maybe he was lucky and the man was just looking for tips and tricks
for his own work out. "My own routine. I work smaller to larger, one
day starting at the top - arms, chest, abs, back then legs - and the
next day work backwards."
"You could also consider a rotation. First day cardio, second day
torso and arms, third day legs, and then repeat the cycle. Gives your
muscles time to repair between workouts." R'sedel suggested.
The bluerider's eyebrow twitched slightly. He had not been Hatched
just yesterday. "I didn't say the days were consecutive. And I do my
cardio in other ways."
R'sedel held his hands up, a gesture he seemed to have to do often
when talking to people, "It was just a suggestion. I am sure," his
eyes looked over the bluerider once again in an appreciative manner,
"that there are many other ways you get in your cardio." **Feisty!**
**I wonder if it's his green that's proddy, or just him.** Zh'no
though, choosing to outwardly ignore the look and comment. "You're
not from here."
Was it that noticeable? "No, I lived at River Bluff until it decided
to fall in."
Zh'no nodded knowingly. "I'm sorry for your loss."
"Thanks. I was lucky, all of my family made it out safely." R'sedel
didn't dwell on things like that too long, life was too short. "You
from Dragonsfall?"
"Dragonsfall has been my only Weyr, though I was not born in the
South. I was Searched from up North before the Pass." But at this
point, he had lived in Dragonsfall for more than half his life. How
long did you have to live in one place before saying that you were
from there, Zh'no wondered.
Ah, the North. A place R'sedel rarely cared to go unless there were
good marks in it for a transportation job. "I'll let you get back to
your exercise. Maybe I'll see you around, sometime."
Really? After being eyed like a piece of meet the greenrider was
letting him go this easily? That was a relief. "Have a good day," he
said with a small bob of his head. Zh'no turned back towards the
mirror, but couldn't help one quick sideways glance in the
greenrider's direction. As his eyes stared straight into his
reflection once more, his gave his body a quick shake, almost like a
shiver from the top of his head that ran down to his feet as he let go
of all thoughts of the encounter with R'sedel and devoted his mind
completely to the task at hand.
R'sedel was all smiles as he walked away, flipping his sweat towel
over his shoulder. That bluerider hadn't seen the last of him.
