Lanniya snuggled her jacket close to her as she knocked on the
Headwoman's dwelling. The chill in the air made her nose red and she
prayed that it would get warmer over the following year. At least in
some way.
"Do come in!" Yanley called. She had a pot of hot drink and mugs ready.
Sniffling, Lanniya opened the door and breathed a sigh of relief as
the warm air greeted her. She pushed back her hood and immediately
went to the fire, thrusting her hands forward. "Sorry, but I'm
freezing." She looked up and smiled, her nose pink. "I'm Lanniya,
Anaeryth's rider. "
"Welcome to Dragonsfall Weyr, Lanniya. I'm Yanley, the headwoman. Do
you want klah?" Yanley replied. She already knew who she was, having
seen the girl around during social occasions. Besides K'ale's been
talking about her.
"Yes please. Anything warm." Lanniya smiled. "It's nice to meet you."
She paused and her eyes widened. "Oh my goodness, you're weyrmated to
K'ale's father. I didn't even think about that. " She offered a
brighter smile and her hand in greeting. "I'm so sorry about my
manners."
"Yes, I am," Yanley smiled. She poured her a mug of klah and handed
it over. "There's nothing wrong with your manners," she replied. The
young goldrider was more polite than some candidates she had dealt
with.
"Thank you." Lanniya took the mug and briefly used it just to warm her
palms before she took a careful sip. "I haven't met D'ale yet, but
K'ale is supposed to introduce me soon." She took another sip, then
sighed at the warmth. "I suppose K'ale told you that I'll be
transferring here after our gold egg hatches. I wanted to speak to you
about a weyr for us. Do you have one available that we could share?"
"There's two weyrs free that have couch big enough for a gold, you can
take your pick," Yanley replied and pulled out some hides to show her
their location. "They are both large enough for two." She pointed them
on the chart. "The other one is bit farther away from, well, from
everything. The second one has more central location."
Lanniya looked at the hides and considered them, sucking in her lower
lip as she thought. They both had their good points, but she didn't
know if she wanted to be away from the bustle and community that much.
Then again, maybe K'ale liked his quiet time and Faranth knew that she
didn't like being disturbed when she and K'ale were pleasantly
occupied. But she also could be contacted by any dragon immediately if
necessary. Making a decision, she pointed to the more private of the
two weyrs. "I think that once would do nicely, please."
"It's yours then. Right now, it just has the barest of basic
furniture. Do you want to go to take a look at it so you'll know how
to furnish it?" Yanley asked and marked the weyr occupaid with
Lanniya. "We have furniture and decoration-items at the Weyr's
storages."
"I would love to see it." She smiled readily. "But I think between
K'ale and I, we'll have enough to fill it. " It would be interesting
to live with him, she figured. They'd shared nights together, but
rarely more than a day or two at once.
"Alright. If you do need something, don't hesitate to ask me," Yanley
said. "Shall I give you a tour?" she asked and picked up her key ring.
"Yes please." Lanniya rose, finishing her klah quickly. "I do have
some questions, though, if you don't mind." She paused, finding the
right words. "Are people nice here?"
"People are same everywhere, so yes, we have lot of nice people and
few not-so-nice one," Yanley replied.
"Um...when we're all settled, would you and D'ale like to come for
dinner maybe?"
"We would be happy to," Yanley replied. "Do you want us to bring the
children or not?" It was better ask than overwhelm the young goldrider
with K'ale's younger siblings. Meanwhile, she led her through the
Weyr's corridors and showed where everything was.
"Uh..." She had completely forgotten about them. "Maybe not the first
time? But the next?"
"Thatīs alright, an adult only dinner then. As long as I know so I can
arrange their care," Yanley replied. "And we are here, your new weyr,"
she opened the door from lower caverns to the weyr.
