R'axe

R'axe

When Z'dhi learned there were two lakes to bathe the dragons in at
Dragonsfall, he was fascinated by this fact. Since it was the summer,
most riders were using the more traditional lake on the plateau rather
than the heated one, and so he chose to head to that lake to scrub
Jahith.

There were a few other dragons bathing - bronzes and browns with some
space between them, two blues in a corner, a brown all on his own.
Jahith wandered into the water and whuffed a greeting at the nearest
dragon while she waited for her rider.

"And so then E'dard said-" R'sedel cut off when he realized that R'axe
wasn't paying him a bit of attention. He followed the bluerider's line
of sight down to a handsome new greenrider standing near the water
with his green.

R'sedel's eyebrows rose and he tossed his head back and made to stand,
"I believe I'll just go down there and intro-"

"Oh, no you don't," R'axe pushed R'sedel back down, using the other
man's size as leverage to push himself to his feet. "I've had your
sloppy seconds ever since you came to Dragonsfall. Had the place to
myself until you showed up."

The greenrider shot a broad toothy grin at his blue companion,
"Nothing wrong with a little healthy competition, is there?"

R'axe waved the other man off good-naturedly and then jaunted down the
beach, his charming smile in place.

"Hey there!" Even as he approached Jayth turned his head to appreciate
Jahith. "Care for a hand?"

Jahith was pleased to see a blue turn his eyes to her. }:The males
here are nice,:{ she told her rider.

**You think males everywhere are nice,** Z'dhi told his green. **You
liked the ones at Windswept.**

}:They were familiar to me,:{ she said dismissively. }:He is new to
me, and he is already interested.:{

"Ahoy there," Z'dhi said with a wave. The new rider had blonde hair
and a strong jaw and looked like he was often cheerful.

"I'm Z'dhi, and this is Jahith. We'd be pleased for some company if it
won't offend your dragon."

R'axe waved his hand in Jayth's direction, "Oh no, he's more
interested in wallowing in the water and talking to greens, yours
specifically, than washing."

"He'd better not her know that, or she'll start playing and forget
she's supposed to be washed," Z'dhi said with a little chuckle.
"What's you and your dragon's names?"

"I'm R'axe, and that's Jayth. You have to be new, I would have noticed
you before." R'axe said as he picked up a spare brush.

"Well met, R'axe. And good eye, we've been here three days," Z'dhi
said. "Formerly of Windswept Islands."

"Windswept! You left a tropical paradise for the cold and the snow?"
R'axe asked as he began scrubbing along Jahith's neck.

Jahith turned her head and neck to give R'axe better access.

"I don't know if I'd define it as paradise. I came from the deserts up
North, so it was awfully humid for me there. Dragonsfall is going to
be colder, but it's going to be more dry and less like soup air. Or so
I hope."

"Oh, it gets plenty dry, I can assure you of that. It's hard not to
keep a chapped face flying around here." R'axe smiled at the green and
scrubbed the brush just behind the groove where her head met her neck.
He didn't know if all dragons liked it, but it was one of Jayth's
favorite spots to have scratched.

"With a face as pretty as yours? That's a waste," Z'dhi said with a
smile. "You use a cream or something for that?"

Jahith let out an audible croon at the brushstroke.

"Of course, it's got a great sage scent. Similar to the stuff I use
after I shave." R'axe grinned back, he was liking this greenrider
already!

"Sounds lovely. When it's wintertime I suppose I'll have to ask you
for advice on what to do."

R'axe's eyes gleamed, "Oh, don't worry, I'd be glad to show you how we
keep warm around here."

"It sounds like you've got to come up with a number of ways, given the
climate. Does it involve warm stews, a hot drink, and friends spending
time together?"

The bluerider tilted his head a little as he considered that what he
had in mind for Z'dhi did involve drinks and spending time goether...
Although perhaps not in the way the greenrider was suggesting. "Yeah,
something like that," he settled for saying with his rakish grin.

"Well I look forward to hearing about this. Anything else fun happen
at Dragonsfall? I know you used to have a pretty good waterball team
and beat us soundly."

"Never played, so I really can't say. I tend to just spectate whenever
it comes to waterball." There were usually several good looking
individuals, male and female, when it came to waterball. **If I played
when would I had time to oogle everyone?**

"I don't play either, but I like watching the game. All that action,
the competition, people pushing each other around and the crowd
getting excited. I like it," Z'dhi said.

"We'll have to catch a game together then so we can spectate. There's going to be a gather near the end of the month at Amber Hills with all kinds of contests, wrestling, archery, you name it. We should go and people watch." R'axe suggested.

"That sounds excellent. It would give me a chance to get to know the people of this area. I wish I knew how to do any of those things. Competing could be interesting. Or maybe I'd just embarrass myself. Maybe that wouldn't be good..." he murmured.

R'axe gave Z'dhi another once over, "Oh, you look like you're good at quite a few things. Don't be so hard on yourself."

Z'dhi blinked twice, looking like a startled firelizard. "I'm good at being a Technician. That's a thing I'm good at. Are you a Crafter or something?" he asked.

"I'm a journeyman Harper, or I was before Impressing Jayth. More on the artsy side. I draw, and paint some." It had been a long time since R'axe had taken up a piece of charcoal though and sketched, which was what he'd been the best at doing when he was a harper. It's not that he didn't sit and doodle sometimes, but ever since he'd become a dragonrider, R'axe had really worked on honing his skills as a lover. **Hmm, now if lovemaking was a craft....**

"Oh, that's really neat!" Z'dhi said. "I can draw some but it's technical diagrams. What do you draw and paint? Real people? Dragons?"

"I can sketch about anything, painting wise, though, I have to stick to landscapes." R'axe finished with his side of Jahith and came around to drop his brush in the bucket.

"Count me as impressed," Z'dhi said. "Can I ask to see them sometime?"

"Sure, but only if you stay for a glass of wine. That's my other great love, finding interesting vintages. Fortunately, the Vintner Hall is located at Amber Hills, just North of us, so it's easy to procure things in exchange for riders."

"That's a useful piece of information. I'm used to providing transportation of packages and people, it can be hard to get around Windswept's territory quickly when you're talking about the smaller islands with a few fishing cots," he explained. "But we don't have a major crafthall so it's just marks. I'd be interested in learning the barter."

"Well, are you busy tonight? You could come over and I'll show you some of my sketches and we can talk some about the territory." And perhaps other things, R'axe added silently.

"I don't have any plans yet," Z'dhi said as he wiped the sweetsand off the last bit of Jahith's hide. "Just have your dragon tell us where to go and we'll be there."
